Emmerdale bosses have announced that former Coronation Street star Denise Black is joining the soap.
The actress, best known for playing Weatherfield's Denise Osbourne, has landed the part of Joanie, the adoptive grandmother of Amy Wyatt's son Kyle.
Billed as "warm and loving", Amy will meet Joanie when she makes contact with the son she gave up for adoption a year and a half ago. The pair will form a friendship that will open up a whole new story for Amy as she gets to know her son and the life he has been living.
Speaking of her new role, Black commented: "Joanie's a character I've never played before. My first grandma! Dear lord, that came round quick! She is going to get some very tasty stories, so I'm really looking forward to it.
"I already know quite a few of the cast and I met Lesley Dunlop on my first day, who said, 'You'll love it here, it's a lovely job'. The casting came through on my birthday so there we go, what a present. I can't believe my luck."
Emmerdale series producer Kate Oates added: "I'm delighted to welcome Denise as a wonderful addition to Emmerdale. Her story will see her playing against some of our best-loved characters, and I know an actress of her calibre will be a fabulous asset to the show."
Black played the role of Denise in Coronation Street from 1992 to 2007. She has also appeared in Bad Girls and Queer As Folk.
Emmerdale will air Joanie's first scenes in August.
This will be good.
It sounds like she will be a nice character
Didn't she play 'Ruby's mum in Bad Girls.
