Chris Fountain suspended over offensive videos
Coronation Street star Chris Fountain has been suspended from the soap after filming a series of offensive rap videos.
The actor, who plays mechanic Tommy Duckworth, transformed himself into an alter ego named The Phantom in a number of amateur videos which were posted online. Show bosses have since launched an investigation into the footage.
Wearing a Halloween mask and surrounded by friends, Fountain delivered a number of obscene and expletive-filled rhymes, which included boasts of violence and rape.
The videos are thought to have been filmed quite some time ago, but Coronation Street bosses have taken action after The Sun newspaper alerted them to the footage.
A show spokesperson said: "ITV find the language used and the views expressed in this video totally unacceptable. Chris Fountain has been suspended pending further inquiries into this matter."
In a statement, Fountain added: "I would like to sincerely apologise for any offence I have caused. I am deeply ashamed by the lyrics and very much regret my behaviour. The videos were made over a year ago when I was experimenting with music and I've not done anything like it since and nor will I."

I believe this happened a year ago, I wonder why they didn't bring it up before.

Maybe they just discovered them. It's shocking what he said though and, as usual, only sorry because he's caught.

Yeah what Pats said X 2 Lyrics about rape and violence is truly despicable. I absolutely loathe rap music for that reason. Although earlier rap in the 80`s I rather liked. Chris` character Tommy Duckworth would be no loss to Corrie if he was given the boot. He hasn`t had much of a storyline other than propping up the bar. It`s just a shame that the Duckworth name should be sullied because of his stupid choices.

I agree, and with Tina leaving, it seems a perfect opportunity for them to write in an exit for Tommy as well.

What on Earth is going on in British tv?? The BBC - hitherto admired and respected the world over, were found to be employing perverts like Stuart Hall, Chris Langham and Jimmy Savill for years, while seemingly colleagues turned a blind eye; recently Corrie - a top rated show for decades - seems to have more than its share of cast members accused of terrible things.

I agree, Wend. Rap has been hijacked by haters. More like talking now too.

Pats...I`m embarrassed to admit it, but it was only a few years ago that I found out that the song 'White Lines' by Grandmaster Flash/Mellie Mel was not about drink driving and crossing the white lines in the road. I had no idea until then it was about cocaine.

Good
These TV stars seem to think that because they are rich and well known they can get away with anything

No great loss, I can`t say I`ll miss him. Other than propping up the bar in the Rovers, he`s had sod all to do in the way of storylines lately. *shrugs*

I hope that Chris Fountains sacking will lead to zero tolerance malarky in the future. So Michelle, Brooke and others will have to tone down those partying pics with them bleary eyed and showing off their undies in taxi cabs coming back from nightclubs. It is the Corrie brand they are representing after all. And the time that Michelle has left in Corrie, she should watch herself or her ending could come sooner rather than later.
I wonder who the Corrie actor/actress was who refused to have scenes with Tommy? Could it be Barb Knox perhaps?

There's certainly a lot of scandal hitting them at the moment.

If it hadn't been for all the high-profile cases going on elsewhere, involving other Corrie actors and the Jimmy Saville (et al) fallout at the BBC, I suspect this might have very quickly been forgotten.
Not saying that would have been a good thing, just that I think both ITV and the Beeb must now be seen to be taking a hard line with offenders.

Paul..... do you think Phil Collinson would have fired Chris Fountain? I don`t. Stuart Blackburn is wielding his axe. No doubt there are a few more on the chopping block. *cough*please like prawn be next*cough*

Jimi Harkishan and Craig Charles were both busted in the past for doing drugs and got away with it - knuckles rapped, but they stayed on as long term cast members. This sends out a bad message IMO - that they are above the law, above reproach and that their employers will tolerate this sort of negative publicity. Sacking one or both of them would not have damaged the show - neither of their characters is particularly inspiring, but maybe could have been improved by being played by other actors. Sexual stuff tends to be viewed as more shocking and more threatening - so those accused of sex crimes will be treated more harshly. So we will probably be saying goodbye to Michael Le Vell and Bill Roache - whatever the verdicts, as they are now tainted by the very accusation.

I wonder (as it was a year ago) if someone with an axe to grind leaked it to The Sun??

You don't film yourself, and then post it on the internet if you don't want people to watch it and form an opinion. He must have known full well that this was going to come out at some point. What a twonk. It was probably one of the 'friends' mentioned in the article who sold the story - maybe someone who'd been promised a future career in the music biz by him, and then was dropped like a stone when Tommy Duckworth took off.

Why didn't he delete the video if he was so ashamed and only experimenting? In fact, why upload it at all and have it set to public?

Why didn't he delete the video if he was so ashamed and only experimenting? In fact, why upload it at all and have it set to public? Patsy Some people just can't seem to be able to resist the temptation to be attention-seeking idiots. Leslie Grantham (Dirty Den, EastEnders) must have thought he was untouchable when he did rude things on a webcam in a BBC dressing room, and ruined his (already shaky) career, the fool.
