Now a series. Let's hope the 'names' are ditched and the focus is on characters. Patsy Exactly, they threw everything at the Christmas special, lets hope the rest of it is not as frantic.

Is Ronnie Barker still alive then? I had no idea. I used to watch The Two Ronnies, and once in awhile Open All Hours. I don't really have any great interest in a revival though. There was a U.S. knock-off very few people seem to remember called Open All Night about a convenience store and a black former star U.S. football player.
I have no idea why Are You Being Served has remained so extremely popular in the U.S. (along with Benny Hill), I think maybe it confirms certain prejudices? I'm guilty of liking On The Buses though which was excessively formulaic and silly... must've been some odd pleasure in seeing Inspector Blakey either vowing to get Butler one day or in rapture that he knew he'd get him and now he has!
I used to love 2.4 Children but wouldn't want them to try to bring that back. I remember when the actor of the Dad died which was sad having escaped the 'rover' in Portmerion.

Sadly Ronnie Barker died 9 years ago binty. Granville took over the shop from Arkwright when Arkwright died in Open All Hours. Last Christmas there was a one off 'Open All Hours' featuring Granville (David Jason). And it was so popular that it became a new series.

Thanks for straightening me out about Barker! I have seen two or three Porridges but liked him best in the sketch style shows. Open All Hours did show a couple of times in my area, not sure if it was the Seattle PBS channel though. Ronnie Corbett appeared in the 2009 doc about Monty Python, don't know if he's still around either. PBS could rerun some of those and Ghosts Of Motley Hall and still be accessible to Americans I would think. Motley Hall even had a Being Served connection. They did run Come Back Mrs. Noah on the Seattle PBS station once, it was pretty odd and not very good.

Poor Ronnie Barker never really recovered after his son Adam went on the run in 2004 over child porn charges. Ronnie died n 2005. Basically he died of a broken heart. Adam finally gave himself up in 2012. so missed the funerals of both parents. He'd already retired in 1987 and made the occasional appearance (including The Two Ronnies Christmas Sketchbook shortly before he died) so it's unlikely he would have been involved in any revivals if he were still alive. Ah Motley Hall! I took my DVD sleeve to be signed by Sheila Steafel at a Dr Who convention a few years ago but you had to buy her ruddy book and only that could be signed. Grrr! This is Region 2. www.amazon.com/The-Ghosts-Motley-Hall-Complete/dp/B0007XMM2O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1413048108&sr=8-1&keywords=the+ghosts+of+motley+hall

It's not bad though David Jason really has a terrible Yorkshire accent. Almost forgot it was on today.

Watched about 10 minutes and thought it was dreadful.
Very tired, predictable writing, and I thought David Jason just looked really uncomfortable in the part.
Why do they insist on trying to resurrect old shows which should have been left well alone?
I would happily keep on watching repeats of the original shows rather than these cr@ppy remakes.

The thing is the original series was a vehicle for Ronnie Barker ... and making it without him would be like doing Rising Damp without Leonard Rossiter
It seemed to me like they were all trying too hard ........ It's a shame because Roy Clarke in his day was a great writer .. Keeping Up Appearances, I Didn't Know You Cared and Last Of The Summer Wine in it's heyday (prob till Thora Hird died) were excellent ... but this just felt old fashioned and past its sell by date

Coincidentally, have watched repeats of Porridge, Fawlty Towers and Blackadder over last few days, and I found them all still very, very funny.

Oops I didn't. I just forgot what day it was. LOL! I did watch and thought it was funny, especially Mrs Featherstone. She had some great lines.

Ratings have been good for this. Shame it's finished. Paula Wilcox was good as Leroy's mum last night. And the references to Arkwright each ep were funny. If it comes back David Jason needs to work on that accent.
