Surprised no-one has mentioned this!
BBC drama last night about the creation and start of DW.
The brilliant David Bradley as William Hartnell.
Judging from reviews it was fantastic, and some friends who are big DW fans have raved about it.
....no doubt some anoraks will pick it to pieces, but we're looking forward to it (recorded it, as it was waaaaay past our bedtime!).

I posted the trailer in the 50th thread. As I was watching journos and my friend Stella quaff free booze at Royal Caribbean's bash in London last night, I've not seen it yet but heard it was really good. Will probably have a look tomorrow.

Great cameos from William Russell, Mark Eden, Carole Ann Ford, Jean Marsh and Anneke Wills. I wonder why Vicki wasn't covered in this? Even a brief Steven and Dodo but no Vicki. Maureen O'Brien isn't like Josette Simon and denying her early career so there must be a good reason she was ignored in it. But it was really good. Very sad at the end when he was told he would no longer be required. I do like the Hartnell and Troughtons. They're less gimmicky than Pertwee onwards. Totally different to those. I may buy this on DVD.
Yes there is a nitpick so call me an anorak. It implied Verity left at the end of The Web Planet when she didn't. She went a couple of months after William Russell and Jacqueline Hill. She brought in Peter Purves to replace them.

I did buy the DVD having seen it already; the extras were decent. Someone who bought the blu-ray set didn't want the regular DVD disc so I printed out my own case insert. I wish more lost episodes would be found, I've wanted to see all of The Faceless Ones in particular, and the Abominable Snowmen which was aired around when I was born.

The rumour Marco Polo was found hasn't gone away.

I'd love to see Marco Polo. Zinnia Morten (later in Space 1999) was in that one!
The Underwater Menace is supposed to be coming out on DVD going by a trailer on one of the Troughton DVDs I have, but after that I am out of the loop.

That was pulled for some unknown reason after planned animation of missing episodes was cancelled. Rumour has it the remaining episodes were found. The omnirumour says the majority of missing eps have been found. Ian Levine claims Phil Morris is hoarding them but we have no idea what's going on. There would be all sots of clearances needed for any to be released. Phil Morris is looking for all lost classic TV and one he found of Morecambe and Wise from the 50s was completely ruined. The same thing could have happened with other DWs he discovered but unfortunately Ian Levine's tantrums and accusations are believed without question by some in fandom. IF anything is coming I'm glad nothing has been said. It would be awful if they announced they found so and so only then to find they were in too bad a state to be restored.
