Two types of people I absolutely hate: 1)drink drivers and 2)people who say 'Do you know who I am?'. And to cause a show up at a cop shop is truly awful - especially after all the negative publicity Corrie has had in the last couple of years.

The copper on duty should have asked Barb if she was going senile when she asked if he knew who she was. I haven`t heard about her being suspended yet. Or does that only apply to the younger ones who take cocaine or appear on a rap video?

It said she's been bailed pending further enquiries but Maxine appears in court on Wednesday.

She shouldn't get away with it - the same laws of the land apply to her as everyone else. I do feel a bit sorry for her - as the only reason this has been all over the media is because she's famous, but that just means she should be aware that if she messes up everyone will jump on it like a ton of bricks.

No she shouldn't. She could have killed someone. Her daughter drives her around a lot, including to and from the studio, so what will she do when Maxine hopefully loses her licence? I hope she doesn't get away with it either for that reason. Neither are kids. They know the rules.

I have always said that however someone acts when they`re drunk is their true personality coming out. The arrogant 'do you know who I am' routine tells me all I need to know about Barbara Knox`s attitude. Anyone else from the cast would have been hauled to the studios and read the riot act from the Granada bigwigs, so their silence is very telling.

She doesn't have to be drunk to say that. She's been up herself for years, especially the way she went from being nice to fans to treating them like shit.

From the Manchester Evening News - get out the violins!:
Daughter of Corrie star Barbara Knox banned from the road for drink driving
Apr 03, 2014 09:24 By Pete Bainbridge
Maxine Ashcroft, 56, was stopped by police while driving home a relative - understood to be Knox - from a family gathering in Alderley Edge, Cheshire
The daughter of Coronation Street actress Barbara Knox has been banned from driving for two years.
Maxine Ashcroft, 56, was stopped by police while driving home a relative - understood to be Knox - from a family gathering in Alderley Edge, Cheshire.
A member of the public following the Jaguar vehicle reported to police they thought the driver was under the influence of alcohol, Macclesfield magistrates heard.
Shortly after, police stopped Ashcroft in Knutsford, Cheshire on the evening of March 10.
She was said to have smelt of intoxicants and provided a positive roadside test.
The defendant was taken to Middlewich police station and gave a breathalyser reading of 97 microgrammes (mg) of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath - 35mg being the legal limit.
Knox, 80, who plays Rita Tanner in the ITV soap, later arrived at the police station. It was reported that Knox confronted officers at the station and asked: “Do you know who I am?”
The veteran actress was arrested herself on suspicion of drink driving and was bailed pending further inquiries.
Yesterday Ashcroft, of Kencot, Lechlade, Gloucestershire, pleaded guilty to drink driving.
Representing her, Nick “Mr Loophole” Freeman, told the court: “She is thoroughly contrite and ashamed. She has let herself down and her family down. She accepts full responsibility for her actions. She is the author of her own misfortune.
“She made a terrible error of judgment which is going to have terrible consequences for her. This was a classic case of alcohol anaesthatising good sense.”
Mr Freeman appealed to the magistrates to lessen the length of the ban due to the circumstances of his client.
The divorcee had recently moved from Cheshire to a rural location where the nearest shop was six miles away.
Mr Freeman said: “I don’t like to use the word recluse but literally her driving licence is her lifeblood. She does not have anyone to drive for her.
“She has no friends there. She literally would not have a life.”
The court heard she had “close family ties” with her parents who she saw on a regular basis who “she cares for as a daughter and is trying to look after them as much as possible”.
Sentencing her, chairman of the bench Graham Hall told her: “Miss Ashcroft, I do not think you need me to tell you how serious this is and how foolish and dangerous this act was.”
He said the bench had considered a community sentence to go alongside the ban but imposed a fine instead after they took into account her remorse, her personal circumstances and her good character.
Ashcroft was fined £960 and ordered to pay £85 costs and a victim surcharge of £96. Knox was not present at court.

Good job she was sensibly punished, like anyone else would have been.
If the woman has moved out to the back of beyond to a place with no shops or public transport - that's down to her. It's no excuse for driving while drunk, and hoping that her showbiz connections will help her out.

She seemed to spend too much time driving mummy around anyway. But it's mummy I wish they'd announce the verdict of - charge or no charge. It doesn't take this long for 'enquiries'.
