I've been watching vintage Emmerdale from the first episode and really enjoying it. It's too bad they weren't able to keep some of the early characters longer like Marrianne Wilks or Peggy Skilbeck. I wonder why they had the twins get killed so early on as they did? They put that episode on the Sopa Box DVD set.
It was a lot of fun to see Dr. Who's future Leela as Sharon Crossthwaite, and the Irish contractor in Fawlty Towers as fill-in barkeep too. Do you think there's much chance there will ever be a Volume 5 DVD?
This is the part of England my Grandfather's family came from, between Bradford and Leeds. I think the landscape is as much a character for me in the Thomas Hardy sense as any of the people in it. I will likely watch this all again in a few years time (touch wood).
Are the paperback books of the early '70s stories taken from the show or new stories? Would they be worth getting if one liked the Coronation Street prequel novels?
