I don't think Phil knew all the time as some people are saying. He is trying to protect Ian and Ben from the shock I expect. Both are likely to go off the rails, though I hope with Kaffy coming back, she'll have a few words to say about Ben denying his sexuality. Probably row with Phil and they end up in bed. You can see that coming!
