'One minute, I was shaking hands with royalty, now I'm sitting in a dole office', laments Bruce in this documentary about celebrities claiming benefits to survive. 'I had a good house, the best cars, nice holidays, and it all went'.
After bad headlines about drunken antics in 2007 Bruce was suspended from Corrie after 10 years playing Les and he's struggled to find acting work.
'I've never been out of work since I left school,' says Bruce, who is now 62 and living in North Wales.
Bruce's best mate, James, sometimes gives him a lift to the Colwyn Bay dole office. 'When he goes inside, it's a nightmare having to speak to younger people who recognise him, says James.
A dejected Bruce adds 'How can I do a normal job after 30 years as an actor?'
Now he's attempting to write children's books about fairies, hoping they could be 'the next Harry Potter'. But Bruce still dreams of making a return to Weatherfield... 'I miss the people,' he says 'I think there's room for Les and his scams. My heart will always be in Corrie.'
