From What's On TV. Next Thursday 8.00pm Channel 5.
''When actor Bruce Jones starred as Les Battersby in Coronation Street, he was earning £100.000 a year and getting mobbed by soap fans wherever he went. He even met Prince Charles and cheekily asked him if his mum watched the soap... 'One minute, I was shaking hands with royalty, now I'm sitting in a dole office', laments Bruce in this documentary about celebrities claiming benefits to survive. 'I had a good house, the best cars, nice holidays, and it all went'. After bad headlines about drunken antics in 2007 Bruce was suspended from Corrie after 10 years playing Les and he's struggled to find acting work. 'I've never been out of work since I left school,' says Bruce, who is now 62 and living in North Wales. Bruce's best mate, James, sometimes gives him a lift to the Colwyn Bay dole office. 'When he goes inside, it's a nightmare having to speak to younger people who recognise him, says James. A dejected Bruce adds 'How can I do a normal job after 30 years as an actor?' Now he's attempting to write children's books about fairies, hoping they could be 'the next Harry Potter'. But Bruce still dreams of making a return to Weatherfield... 'I miss the people,' he says 'I think there's room for Les and his scams. My heart will always be in Corrie.'
Might look at this.

Trouble with him, life imitated art. He became Les Battersby, a loud mouthed, aggressive, racist objectionable drunk . He thought he was untouchable, then he got axed and has been moaning ever since. He has got about as much chance to re-appear in Corrie as I have doing a moon landing. Rant over

This was so boring. And who were the other 'celebs'? I've never seen any Big Brother, so I don't know who that woman was, but even I know that BB leads nowhere. It's been on long enough for contestants to know that it's a waste of time. Anyone who's ever been on it is then stuck with a 'famous' face, no money and no prospects. Yet they still keep doing it. The other two blokes seemed decent enough - had some talent, work experience, get up and go - hopefully they'll find something. If Bruce had been a better actor, and not behaved like such a knob he would have got more acting work. Now we the tax payers have to support him, since he didn't manage to keep hold of any of his £100sk salary. Then again - he doesn't come across as that bright and maybe needed professional financial advice. It seems that his employers (Corrie) and his agent and his bank manager didn't manage to convince him to invest in any sort of pension or schemes for a rainy day. Maybe they should have tried harder - given that they knew what he was like, and wasn't going to remain employed forever. Then he could be unemployed on his own money, and not ours.

It was the drink that got him sacked. If he had laid off the booze then maybe, just maybe he still might be in Corrie. By all accounts he used to show up for work three sheets to the wind, and in his drunken mind he thought he was untouchable. And also when he was druink he used to beat gis wife and play the big "I am" everywhere he went. I have always said....however anyone acts when they`re drunk is their real persona shining through. And Bruce Jones was a bully. Bruce Jones was playing himself in Corrie....just like Prawn does.

Craig Phillips, first BB winner had some fame with house renovation progs. Alison Hammond stayed in the public eye while the most famous was Jade Goody.
How much were these nobodies paid for this? DWP need to stop their benefits. It really doesn't help when job centre advisors tell people how to scrounge more.
