Not my cruise unfortunately and it's sold out anyway, though I would go if only to find out if I'm right about the grinning idiot being the cause for the retakes:
Lecture Topics
Dev and Sunita’s Hindu wedding. This episode written by Debbie Oates was the jewel in Coronation Street Autumn Launch for 2005. The entire production team was determined that this should not only be procedurally accurate, but also highly entertaining. The complex rituals of the Hindu ceremony were skilfully woven into the fabric of the episode and provided a snapshot of a truly multi cultural Britain. The happiness of the occasion was intercut with the machinations of the evil Maya who had set out to ruin the day. We go behind the scenes and reveal how too many experts can sometimes get in the way of a good story.
Todd and Sarah’s baby funeral. This excellent script by Carmel Morgan prompted the Guardian to comment on the way that soap sometimes elevates the ordinary into the extraordinary. This moving episode was the culmination of the tragic doomed relationship of Sarah and her gay boyfriend Todd. A baby was born, just as the truth about his orientation is revealed. Their child dies and Todd is forbidden by Sarah’s family from attending the funeral. This episode is Todd’s journey to pay respects to the son he will never know. Hear how a graveside incident rocked an entire cast during the filming of this episode, which is a Corrie Classic.
Clare and Ashley’s Wedding. This was the hour long Christmas day Episode was written by John Fay. The fairytale “White Wedding” was in stark contrast to Tracy wreaking revenge on Karen. Boxing Day saw the culmination for Karen and she left the street in a taxi, never to return. The technical problem of creating a Snow Filled street in November was a triumph for the company Snow Business. This company was responsible for the snow scenes in the film Notting Hill. One scene in this episode of Coronation Street had to be re-shot at vast expense. Why, and how, will be revealed during the presentation.
The Tommy Garage Murder. This was a Carmel Morgan script, which required both careful development and directing. During the episode, the complex father daughter relationship of Tommy and Katy was explored in the confines of a dark intimate back street garage. Katy was forced to acknowledge the folly of her relationship with the much older Martin, and Tommy had to goad his daughter into leaving her unsuitable lover. As a production team, we had to resolve the difficult structural problem of how Katy came to find the murder weapon in her hand. The secrets of three intense filming days will be revealed.
