From Soap GossipJohn’s shock confession. Corrie favourite John Savident stunned TV viewers by revealing - live on air - that he’s scheduled to have a life-saving heart operation early next year. The actor, who plays Fred Elliott, purveyor of pork pies to the hoi palloi, told viewers of BBC1's Saturday Kitchen that he needs valve surgery. The actor has shot his last scenes for Coronation Street after quitting due to gruelling filming schedules. When celebrity chef James Martin asked what he'd be doing after leaving the soap, John admitted: "Next year I’m having a heart operation. I am having a new valve in. I am sick of the one I’ve got." Poor bloke, hope he will be ok.

They never are. Hardly his fault he was speaking the truth. Bill Roache did too but it's double standards where he's concerned.

I will miss Fred Elliot, and I hope that John, who made the character so great, gets well soon after his op.
