Well the episodes are the same length I think so it just depends which is the most suitable place to put the advert. I was surprised it was so soon tonight, I thought it cant have been on 10 mins already!

It was the same tonight..on for 6 minutes then a 4 and a half minute commercial break (I timed it)..back on for 15 minutes then a 5 minute break before I'm a celebrity.....
we really ought to do something in protest...all switch off..or get a petition up..its the thin end of the wedge

I thought it was only Channel 4 that had the first advert break within minutes. In fact, their first advert break comes up before the opening credits half the time.

It does on imported programmes as they have quite a few scenes before the break. And then we still have credits on the screen 15 mins into the episode!

I was never really bothered by the prospect of adverts on the BBC instead of paying for a TV licence, since there are adverts on nearly other channel you kind of get used to it, and it's not a big deal.
But if they're all going to take the piss like that and interrupt the programmes before they've got started it will be unbearable.
Surely the ad makers want us, the potential customers, to be happy and comfortable and in a good mood when their ads appear? Then we'd be more likely to remember and possibly buy the product. Surely they can't want us all to be looking at the clock and going 'What....??Where's me programme....?' when they delight us yet again with someone enjoying a bowl of Kellogg's cornflakes?

I agree, id rather adverts on BBC rather than paying the licence fee - especially as I hardly watch the BBC.

I'd rather have the licence. How many people actually watch the ads in the first place? ITV are losing so many viewers I'd guess hardly anyone.

I wouldnt, not when we have to spend over £100 a year on it just to have a tv set. I could think of much better things to spend that money on.

I wouldnt, not when we have to spend over £100 a year on it just to have a tv set. I could think of much better things to spend that money on. Lots of people are so squared-eyed that if they saved the £100+ licence fee money they'd just spend it on DVDs of stuff they've already seen, then watch them when there's something better on the telly, so they video that, or buy or rent a DVD of what they missed - and so it continues. They are becoming slaves to the TV!! Then there are those who watch TV the whole time to justify the licence fee!! Given this dribbling dependence on television that has snuck in to many peoples' lives - no wonder the admen take full advantage and try to brainwash us further with commercials every five minutes.

I agree, id rather adverts on BBC rather than paying the licence fee - especially as I hardly watch the BBC. I can see your point, but I think that commercial advertising on the BBC would destroy it. I think that the BBC is actually a fantastic bargain for the licence fee, easily very favourably comparable to a Murdoch-vision subscription (and plenty of people have both). Having said that, though, it annoys me hugely that BBC television actually does carry adverts, and has done for some time. Every space between programmes on all BBC channels carries at least three or four trailers, or adverts for digital, or paying your licence fee by direct debit, or learning services, or whatever. Frankly, it gets right on my tits. But again having said that, I have also watched TV in the USA and the relentless ad breaks there drove me up the bloody wall.

can you imagine what it would be like if the BBC started taking commercials??..the endless rivallry of the comapnies trying to attract advertisres, promising them long advert slots so they'll come to them...it would be just endless streams of adverts with the odd bit of programme stuck inbeteen for 5 minutes,,..thats what it was like when I was in America a few years back..we watched Everybody loves raymond..this is how it went....
Adverts opening scene and credits adverts extra credits and 5 mins of prog adverts 7 mins of prog adverts end 7 mins of prog adverts closing credits adverts
and that was in a 30 minute slot !!
the only way to protest is to SWITCH OFF

Not quite as bad as that in Australia. When I was there in 2001 they did have ads before the end credits. Now they don't but don't have ads between programmes either. It really is getting bad. I remember watching films on German channels years ago and they would have one break an hour lasting 7 mins so they flowed better. Maybe ITV et al should do that then leave the rest of the time for the shows.
