The Christmas schedules are virtually in place now. As things currently stand the BBC might have avoided clashing Corrie and EE however they seem to have brought out their other big guns to fight Corrie and Emmerdale.
EastEnders kicks the night off on BBC 1 at 6:30 then Doctor Who at 7pm head to head with Emmerdale for the full hour, Strictly Come Dancing (which is popular although not my cup of tea) up against Corrie at 8 then EastEnders at 9. And of course it is a big night for EE with the departure of Pauline.
If these schedules remain this year's ratings war is going to be interesting. Will people if stuck on BBC1 bother to turn over to Emmerdale or even Corrie? Schedules could still be subject to change but let's start taking bets now who will win this year's ratings war.

Yes they do, however I think Corrie might have a serious dent in its viewership this year. Yes sure people will turn over after DW and people who are watching Emmerdale will possibly stay on ITV1, but I wouldn't at all be surprised if Corrie's numbers are low. Not major stories going on in Weatherfield either. A return of an old face but most youngers won't care about that and David and his antics are the two only things I can see.

I,m a coward and playing safe and saying both will tie as ee has Pauline,s funeral in it and Corrie has Cilla with cancer (though it,ll be great to see an old face returning )and Tom king is killed in emmerdale (very christmassy how to keep your veiwers cheerfull not! )

I agree with Patsy. BBC1 will win as they always do.
The problem is I dont think ITV are all that bothered whether they win Christmas Day or not (although obviously they would be happy to win!) - the main concern for them regarding ratings is the period during November and early December when they sell loads of advertising space in the run up to Christmas. Which is why we get a lot of ratings winner programmes in the weeks leading up to the festive season rather than during it. Things like Im a Celeb, X Factor Live shows, extra episodes of Corrie on Fridays, flims like Love Actually etc all shown during late Nov/Early December.
Personally on Christmas Day all I will be watching is TOTP in the afternoon (which we always watch after Christmas Dinner), and then Doctor Who and Corrie in the evening. Im not planning on watching anything else as it stands at the moment. I know if im at my parents they will watch Emmerdale and Corrie but my brother and I will go in the other room and watch Doctor Who! I prefer a lighter episode of Corrie on Christmas Day with families enjoying the day together like last year which is why I enjoyed Christmas 2005 in Corrie more than Christmas 2004.
In terms of who will win slots in the evening I predict;
6.30pm EE will win this slot 7.00pm Doctor Who will win and seriously damage ITV's ratings for this slot 8.00pm Corrie will just about win but get a lot less than usual due to SCD 9.00pm EE will win and probabaly be the highest rated programme of the day (much as I hate it!)
No good kidding ourselves EE wont win as it always does! Im not really bothered anyway as Corrie win most other weeks of the year with about 1 million more than EE (sometimes more)

I'm going to be boring and agree with everything you say there Jez.
The television is so dire this Christmas I actfually don't know if we will watch anything. My uncle is with us. I definately will tape DW even if I don't watch it. But my uncle likes it and he also likes EE (which the rest of my house don't). So I'm guessing my uncle will want EE, we probably all will then watch DW or a video/DVD then eat some tea at 8 (because we will be too full before that), uncle will want EE at 9 and I'll probably go to bed leaving them drinking as I normally get tired on Christmas Day or if I don't go to bed at 9 I'll be sad and come online.

Even before TV got so crap, BBC put out better programmes in the 70s and 80s. We used to watch more over Christmas than the entire year.
As for Tom King, I think people will either tape it or it will peak in the last segment when non-Dr Who viewers will switch on for Corrie.

Well my mum and dad dont watch EE or Doctor Who but they do watch Emmerdale and Corrie so I know they will have ITV1 on. I no longer watch Emmerdale but do watch Doctor Who and Corrie so it will be a mix of BBC1 and ITV1 for me. Might play one of the DVD games im hoping to get for Christmas if there is nothing on afterwards. Although my brother will give me a run for my moneywith the Corrie DVD especially if there is recent questions on there as ive educated him about Corrie! lol

LOL! I bet Lane didn't that of that one. Unless 'Don't Know' is really 'Don't Care'.
Christmas TV will give me a chance to get through that backlog of DVDs I've built up since I was in Oz. LOL! I also have to put stuff on DVD for my friend in LA so can get that done too.

LOL!
Have you still not watched the 60s DVD's of Corrie? Ive had them since July but have only got as far as 1966 - I just dont have the same love of the 60s Corrie as I do for 70s or 80s but they are ok to watch. I got through the 70s in about 2 weeks and I was working so only had limited time!

No. It's in a pile somewhere with everything else. I've found DVDs I haven't watched in 3 different rooms.

Im sure you will enjoy them when you get around to it. They are good but not as good as the 70s imo.
Blimey that means apart from Reet's scenes you have watched no Corrie (old or new) all year!

60s telly was very different to now. Production techniques have changed a lot.
Don't forget I did watch the Emily and Ed stuff too which was better than that Reet drivel while I was away. Stopped me getting suicidal from Barbara's mediocre acting when I was catching up. LOL!

Well as expected the BBC won Chrismtas Day. However if ITV are licking their wounds over Christmas Day and the major failure of their Doc Martin special, they are going to be literally sobbing over Boxing Day. BBC had a rough average of 10 million viewers to ITV's rough average of 4 million. Even Emmerdale was below 7 million on Boxing Day. CHRISTMAS DAY TOP 10 1. The Vicar of Dibley (11.4m) 2. EastEnders part two (10.7m) 3. Coronation Street (9.6m) 4. EastEnders part one (9.2m) 5. Doctor Who (8.7m) 6. Little Britain Abroad (8.4m) 7. The Queen's Christmas Message (7.6m*) 8. Strictly Come Dancing Special (7.3m) 9. Emmerdale (7.2m) 10. Strictly Come Dancing Preview (6.8m) * BBC One and ITV1 combined Source: BARB For more details visit news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/6209697.stmnews.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/4560594.stmEastEnders was the most watched programme last Christmas Day so was down on its audience. Fewer people were watching television this year.

No real surprise that BBC won on Christmas Day - I think all of us predicted that. Corrie did well to be in 3rd place though. It had more competition than EE which was only up against Doc Martin which is far less popular than the likes of Doctor Who and SCD.
As for Boxing Day - what the hell were ITV thinking putting Emmerdale back to 6.30pm? They could have put it on at 7.30pm and WWTBAM at 6.30pm. No wonder if got less viewers.

I know this is off topic but 4 out of 10 people had BBC1 on throughout Boxing Day Night.
I must admit we turned on Emmerdale to see it had just finished so we turned off again.
According to Media Guardian "Pirates of the Caribbean on BBC1 became only the third programme over the Christmas period to top 10 million viewers, with an average audience of 10.1 million, according to unofficial overnights.".
From 7:30 it was up against : the last half of ITV's Celebrity Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, with 4.5 million, Challenge Anneka that got 3.3m which in turn was beaten by Deal or No Deal which had 3.4 million viewers, a 14% share of the audience at 8pm. After Thomas from 9 with 4.9million.
Emmerdale got 6.8 million from 6:30 to 7pm which beat BBC1's Mastermind Celebrity Special, with 4.2 million while EE got 8.6 million up against the first half of millionaire.

My parents watched Doc Martin and said it was dire - yet stayed watching it all the way through!
3.3 million for a peak time show is really bad.
