Another inspired casting duo by Corrie. Lots of mileage here I think. Trying to pretent Cilla was starving him so he could be a jockey. ;D

We have seen some good scenes with Chesney lately in Canada. He really is a great young actor.

He always looks like butter wouldn't melt. He's so cute and cheeky and it's great casting because it works no matter who he's in scenes with. Look at the way he conned the oldies of money at New Year. Brilliant.

Should be good, Corrie does humour so much better than the other soaps.

Emmerdale does it better at the moment and there's more of it. Tonight's Corrie being an exception.
I loved it when Schmeichel was talking Roy for a walk. Reminds me of Barbara and she's about a quarter his size. Wish she sat when told too. Or did anything when she's told. Treats don't work because she sits waiting by the cupboard for something to stuff her face with anyway! Maybe Chesney could teach her obedience. LOL!

Tonights Corrie with Chesney, Roy and Schmichael was great - schmichael is brilliant! I disagree about Emmerdale, most of their attempts at comedy are cringeworthy - like last nights with the dingle's and Bob

Yeah but Corrie's your fave no matter how crap it is. Steph had some terrific lines tonight that were funny considering what happened yesterday. And the Dingles were funny in their outfits.

Likewise these days you are always slating Corrie and saying Emmerdale is always better, which is fine as each to their own.

Ah but I have watched both for decades. Always stuck with Corrie while dipping in and out of Emmerdale from about 1986 until 5 years ago. Emmerdale has improved while Corrie has gone down the depressing EE route.

But surely I am entitled to my opinion that Corrie is on top form? Ive watched Emmerdale well over a decade, and Corrie for nearly 2 decades and ive always preferred Corrie.

That's write. After all, we haven't agreed so far. Still, there is a first time for everything. LOL! ;D
I might enjoy it more if they didn't drag stuff out with boring characters and storylines going round in circles.

The sight of Roy taking Schmeichel for a walk. ( or at least him hanging on to the end of the lead while the dog travelled at 40 miles an hour ) was very funny.
Good to see Roy has discovered the art of training Schmeichel, a piece of liver sausage in his pocket.

well heres my opinion on the subject (for what its worth)... Eastenders can't do comedy, and in the last few years all their drama is cliched and stereotyped. With unlikeable characters and two dimensional baddies. Emmerdale is good and they do have some good comedy, but occasionally it goes farcical..I mean how did Lisa make 5 lephrechaun costume in the space of minutes..even Vivienne Westwood wouldn't manage that. With me Corrie is tops...It has the balance of drama and comedy to perfection. And i don't agree about dragging stories on...I think nowadays they are too rushed..Look at the business with Rita and Alan Bradley, that storyline played out for about 3 years...todays plots aren't given enuff time to pan out..look at this Charlie and Shelley business, one minute he's a lovable jack the lad..next he's a psychotic mind controlller. But on the plus side, characters like Roy,Hayley,Fred and Blanche are great they deliver their lines with perfect comic timing, and behind Roys lines you see a lifetime of upset and trauma......unlike the Eastenders characters...there I've said it and it needed saying lol

Yes but to be fair, Nick, Alan and Reet was years ago when Corrie WAS tops mixing comedy and drama. Ever since Kieran Roberts came along, comedy has been lacking despite newspaper articles saying he brought it back! So many people stopped watching after Richard because it was so boring. Those 2 weeks between Richard's absence and return were the most boring EVER up to that time and there was a serious lack of laughs. Even the wonderful Archie became humdrum after a promising start. Some examples of their 'humour' over the past few years:
Mr Woo - total crap, especially after the publicity saying Reet to get a dog (which was ludicrous in itself). It was just stupid and poisoning a pet is NOT funny but from a sick mind to get 'laughs'. They wouldn't do it to a child.
Cannabis cakes - Jack and Vera worked. Reet, Emily, Norris and Roy failed miserably because they all had the same reaction and were talking to themselves as if they were drunk rather than high. I said to people before that aired it would be crap and was told it may surprise me. But that person agreed with me after it was shown. I knew it would flop because Barbara Knox CAN'T do it. She failed at rip-roaring drunk 13 years ago so what chance was there with that?
Sean's dog - not funny at all and the script was just desperate.
Eileen's crisp addiction - yawn!
Even the factory girls were better in the past. Vera has changed. She's not the same as she was. She pulls faces too much now.
As for stories dragging out 3 years like Alan and Reet, it was different in those days because of 2 eps a week (then 3 before the climax) so you could skip days and had a break from it. Now it's almost in real time because there's too many. And Alan was only a conniving, money-grabbing git from 1987 anyway after she refused to marry him. It was after that he started borrowing money from her. He could be manipulative before that now and again. But 87 was when they changed him. Now they move too fast and drag things out because there's too many characters the writers need to include in every ep. There also isn't the characters there were in the past to provide the laughs. Norris, Roy, Blanche, Les, Cilla. Who else? Hayley's gone too boring. Jack and Vera aren't a patch on the past. Remember the Rovers back room in the old days? Sitting round the table just nattering but it was funny. Not like now. My favourite writer is John Stevenson but with all this drivel today, he's written some of his worst scripts. It's unbelievable he wrote so many great eps in the past. Peter Whalley too. From the climax of the Ken/Deirdre/Mike triangle to cannabis cakes in the cafe. Quite a comedown.
I do agree about Lisa Dingle but hey, it's called artistic licence, something Corrie uses a hell of a lot more and expects no one to notice. For instance, what's happened to Ray's car? Reet's car even?

Blimey..i had totally forgotten about Rays car..well spotted Patsy..yes i agree with everything you say,and looking back on reflection it is true what you say about when there were only 2 episodes a week..and you only had about 18-20 characters per episode..now they have loads to cram in...less is more i say...but I still stick with my theory that out of the three big soaps Corrie does it best..i just hope they don't rest on their laurels too much...Oh and i do agree about the Eileen crisp addiction and the death of Seans dog..its as if they typed that in at the last minute to give the characters something to do..I suppose on reflection..you are right Patsy

It wasn't as heavy going as now either. Mave and Reet's scenes were much better than Reet and Norris. Shop scenes with Alf and whoever, cafe scenes, Rovers too. Reet and Alan is my favourite storyline EVER so I'm the expert. I have all the eps (Plus and original broadcast) and have the scenes on separate tapes because I'm incredibly sad. ;D I can very easily watch those 23 hours worth or even grab an old bought tape whereas I struggle to sit through an ep most of the time these days. Even characters just nattering on the street was entertaining. That's all missing these days because everyone is doing something as part of some storyline. There was a definite improvement in the months after it was announced Kieran was going, which means he went then and not at the end of the year. Humour had returned and it wasn't so dull. There's still too much dross to counter the good bits but Tony Wood is on the right track. Very good interview with him in Broadcast magazine which I was sent yesterday. He listens to the cast AND is the first producer in a very long time to actually talk with Tony Warren. During the last 9 months of 2003 I missed eps and wasn't bothered. And I felt like switching off so many times but stuck with it in case Reet made one of her rare appearances. Have felt like falling asleep a few times since Tony came along but not switching off. He seems to be axing all Kieran's creations (though still why he's bringing back Bev is a mystery) and undoing all the damage he did. I hope he stays a while so he can keep up the good work he's started. There's too many daft storylines and still too much emphasis on Tracy. Maybe once she's gone things won't seem as bad! LOL!

I also think there are too many scenes per episode..in the old days scenes used to last as long as that particular issue was talked about..if Rita came into the pub to have a row you saw the whole row..now they have the person come into the pub and say 'I want a word with you lady'..and then it cuts to something else
I think Patsy, they should put me n thee in charge love..we'd soon sort it out

LOL! What a great idea. I'll also write all Reet's dialogue and have her battering her peanant on a regular basis while snaring rich hubbies, guzzling vodka and counting her squillions. Yes, Reet will be universally adored again. ;D
There are and they're too short too. I sent a video of Upstairs Downstairs to a friend for Christmas the other year and he was amazed at how long the scenes were. One at least in the most boring ep ever (though the cast loved it) was most of the first part! They reckon we have shorter attention spans these days which probably explains all that "Previously on..." crap they do. But with longer scenes you get more character development and it's more likely to stick in the mind. I know what you mean about not seeing things. I was sooooo looking forward to Reet and Emily apologising to Norris over Richard. I wanted him to milk it for everythinghe could, as would have happened in the past. But no. Betty asks Reet if she'd apologised, Reet says yes, several times and that's it. And so many scenes look as if they're continuing when it cuts to something else. And I was very disappointed Reet was nowhere to be seen after it all came out about Richard. She'd been half-murdered by Alan and driven bonkers so would have been an understanding shoulder for Gail and Audrey. Even when Peter's bigamy came to light, where was Fred and Emily comforting Shelley? They'd been there. But it's like anything pre-Brian Park is forgotten.
