Okay, this idea has proved popular on the Emmerdale board - so we might as well try it over here.
First episode tonight was fairly surprising - in a number of different ways.
The scenes between Shirley and Kevin were fairly surprising - as we saw just how violent he is. I was totally shocked by him throwing her around like he did, and then throwing rubbish all over her. Talk about him having contempt towards her. Also he was harsh considering Denise's experience of domestic abuse.
But the emotional scenes between them were really good, especially with Shirley getting down and begging to see her children. Also we are really starting to understand Kevin's battle, as his other son died.
As for Pauline's funeral - well Michelle rang anyway, at least showing she has a reason for not being there, even if we didn't hear it. Perhaps they could have recast Vicky (with a less irritating accent) and Mark Jnr. and brought them back for the episode - while Michelle perhaps was sick and unable to travel. Oh well, another missed opportunity.
Second episode was another good one, with the tension slowly building as Dot uncovered Sonia's deception, and Carly uncovering the truth about her mother.
June Brown was brilliant, as was James Alexandrou. I loved the song playing towards the end as Sonia looked relieved that Pauline was about to be cremated - only to be shocked as the police turned up. Great camera work at the end with the face of Sonia, with Dot behind her.
Elsewhere Carly, thankfully, realised that Shirley was her mother. The slight spat between herself and Denise looked like there is plenty more where that came from.

Martin wasn't that impressed Michelle wasn't going to be there but I thought he would have said why.
I have to agree about Kevin and Shirley. Those scenes in the toilet were just so tense and electrifying. They were my favourite out of the entire episode due entirely to the outstanding acting by Phil Daniels. He switched from one emotion to another without a blink. I was pretty shocked when he threw her to the floor before chucking the rubbish over her.
Kudos to June, James, Natalie and even the little girl playing Rebecca too. Okay so she's not the best little actress in the world but she's had so much to do during this she's handling it very well. I thought Dot was going to tell everyone what Sonia did when she was giving her eulogy. So did Sonia! I can't wait for tonight's.

I though the episode was amaqzing last night. The best in a long time.
The wicks stuff was awesome, I think Shirley is going to be a hit. Kevin played a blinder, Phil Danials rocked and I couldn't decide who to 'side with' out of them. It was so sad to hear him talk about James. Very emotional stuff.
Pauline got the send off she deserved. i thought rebecca did well last night.

I like Kevin so was totally on his side even though he was a bit of a thug towards Shirley. What she did must have been bad. Unless all those year with no contact has made him angrier as time went on, especially when James died and she seemingly didn't care.

Phil Daniels was good again. But what's this he wouldn't want Shirley telling them? The plot thickens.
Excellent performances again tonight from James, June and Natalie. Though Natalie did go OTT at times. And that in the Vic with Ian was great too when they were all making jokes about Pauline's death.

Yup. See, even they thought it was Betty!
I thought all the Wicks diod themselves proud tonight, even the kids pulled it off.
James is so wonderful at the moment and I shall miss him when he is gone.

Tonights episode was another cracking one. At least we know who Mo and Mickey think did it. Poor Ian and Martin though - the two of them are in total meltdown.
I loved Martin's reaction to his mother being taken away by the police, shouting at the van and calling for his mother. Very realistic, and brilliantly acted. June's fainting was also great, as she fell faint from the shock of the day. This was also great as Dot needs to be in the centre of this storyline - and I'm glad that they have put her there.
I loved the slow tension building, as the mourners arrived back in the Square. Martin angry, Ian suffering and Sonia desperate to keep her secrets. Joe played a background role in the episode, just answering that he was at his daughters when Pauline died. Could he really be the killer?
The cliffhanger at the end was a true "Dum-dum-dum" one, with a crazy eyed Martin grabbing Sonia and telling her he know's who killed his mother... Is it really Mr. Oppodoulas?
The other big story was Shirley meeting her kids. I agree with Yasmin that she is the best new character in a while. I loved Linda Henry (think that is her RL name) in Bad Girls, and she looks to be just as good in EE. Carly went into her typical patchy acting, but improved as the episode went on.
The mystery deepened at the end of the episode though - with her phone call to Kevin. How she would have his phone number in the first place is beyond me. I mean when she was in the gentleman's toilets with him she hardly said "By the way Kevin, you wanna swap phone numbers now?"
I think that Shirley has a good future in the show - and she should be sticking around for a good while, in reponse to Patsy's question. She's signed a six month contract I'd guess.

LOL! I laughed when Mickey said Betty did it because she'd left her the house. Who says EE can't do comedy?
Shirley had his mobile number from the hire docket she stole. She phoned him after he left Dorset. Better be good then if it's 6 months.
Roll on Thursday!

Ah! I forgot about the docket. I missed the last few Dorset episodes - same as usual. I'd say she will have her contract extended if she proves popular. 6 months is just standard for new actors joining a soap - just in case they don't work out. Only really big stars with proven records get longer contracts when they join a show.

She still has it. She used it yesterday. Odd that was never mentioned again. I wouldn't be surprised if she does have it extended. It depends on where they go with this.

About time Sonia admitted it even though we know she didn't do it. Joe is really becoming a spare part so it can't be too long he's written out.
Shirley is certainly Mrs Unpopular already among the locals.

If Shirley is planning on sticking around so that she can endear herself to her kids - why go to the local pub looking and acting like a desperate old tart? Cadging drinks and asking blokes to go clubbing with her - didn't exactly make her look like a caring mother. Maybe she has only come back to put the boot into Kevin after all.
Denise should butt out - it's not her business, and she of all people should understand the resentment caused by interfering in other families'/people's affairs.
Minty and Garry looked like Laurel and Hardy in their suits. Mind you Carly - as pointed out by my partner - looked like Macauley Culkin in Home Alone during her scenes with Shirley the other night.
Martin will probably wind up forgiving Sonia for battering his mother - she forgave him after all for running down and killing her fiance, Jamie. Fair's fair!
Ian is irritating as he tries to be 'head of the family'. He's a snot-nosed brat, always has been regardless of his age - he has no presence or authority about him.
It's a shame that Dot had to speak to the police - but an even bigger shame that she didn't call them so quickly in the past when her own son, Nick, was up to no good. She protected him for long enough, but not Sonia.

Isn't that a bit like affairs though? Women forgive their errant fellas while the men hate the women forever. He probably will end up forgiving her in the end and they'll go tripping into the sunset with Rebecca.
Maybe Dot's learned over the years.
I suppose Shirley getting the kids on side will be the ultimate damage she can inflict on Kevin all the while he rants and raves and almost turns purple.

Tonight's was a bit boring IMO - and it looks like Sonia's punch up the bracket was what did for Pauline after all.
If it hadn't been for Rebecca she would have got away with it.
That kid will be seriously disturbed with all the death and misery she's experienced in her young life - and now she's only got Martin: ex-con, killer of Jamie, single brain cell and not even a fruit and veg stall to his name.

It did go a little bit around in circles but I'm not surprised Martin didn't believe her. She never said Pauline fell which shattered the fruit bowl. He probably believes she hit her over the head with it. Joe looked a little guilty as Sonia was carted off. Or was that my imagination and he always looks that way?

Joe has always looked a bit shifty and apologetic. If he did sneak in and clump Pauline one after Sonia did - then I reckon he will only confess it to Bert, but not to Martin or the police.
Jim was right - Pauline managed to ruin things for Sonia after all, even if it was just by provoking her into a fatal assault. You get the impression that had Pauline not dropped dead she would have told Martin about what Sonia did and would have succeeded in splitting them up after all. Poor Sonia.

Unless he finally gets some backbone and does go to the police reasoning he can't let Sonia suffer for something she didn't do. He started to get backbone over her brain tumour lies. And is probably still seething she whacked him with the plate.
He was. But with the old bag dead we'll never know now.

Sonia has been carted off then anyway. I'd say that it must be her though, not Joe or anyone else. There has been so much about it now that it can't really not be her. And she has confessed herself as well. It still wasn't muder though IMO.

When did Joe collect his stuff before? He said tonight he'd gone to collect some more. Didn't he just walk out on Pauline with very little?
I know it was really stupid and pointless but I quite liked the inept solicitor.
You can sense trouble brewing when Kevin finds out Denise gave Deano Shirley's addy. Even if Deano says nothing you can bet your life Shirley will.

They made such a big deal about the second solicitor - the bent, female one. IMO she is far more Phil's type than Stella (who was working behind the bar tonight!).
I agree that trouble is definitely brewing in the Wick's household. I wonder what Kevin's secret is?
Max and Stacey saga continues, as Bradders wonders why he always goes for domineering women. Funny that he asked Naomi - who hasn't had anyone in ages. She's my top tip to be gone by the end of the year.

I was so bored by Max and Stacey I forgot all about it.
Kevin's secret could be a multitude of things from a viscious thug to being a cross-dresser.
I forgot Naomi was even there. I'm with you. She'll go this year.
