Quite shocked by this.
For me, if anyone should have gone, it should have been Bruno (bloody irritating, and with no serious opinions of his own), or even Len (who had become occasionally very, very 'ratty' - too much travelling?).
Arlene and Craig were always the ones to give a real opinion based on fact and knowledge, and although they could be very harsh, their views nearly always coincided with ours.
This is obviously just a 'yoof' and 'glamour' issue, like having Amanda Holden and Kelly Brook on BGT. Neither of them were qualified to be there - they should have used someone like Nicki Chapman.

I am very sorry to head about Arlene going, she was about the only one who kept the others in line.
I think Alesha is too young, and doesn't have the experience to be a judge ( even though she is a terrific dancer and a lovely person ) I can't see her ever coming out with the pertinent put downs like Arlene does.
I think the BBC has shot itself in the foot with this one.

I think a lot of people feel the same as you Nick. I have read a lot of letters from people who are not happy.

She would have been perfect, but hey, we're only the viewers - what do we know?

It will be interested to see if all this will affect the viewing figures.

TV companies are stupid. They aim at the yoof market while alienting their core viewers while the yoof don't bother anyway. But do they ever learn?

I don't think there is anybody I dislike this year......unlike last when I didn't want either Lisa Snowdon or Jessie Wallace to.

As I said on another thread I was going to boycott this years series over the shoddy way they have treated Arlene and Karen...BUT...my backbone is weakening !!

Well we have watched a few bits (Only because there is sod all else on)
Alesha Dixon has added absolutley nothing of any substance to the panel...Arlene has 40 years of choreography experience and knows all about the technicalities etc... all Alesha could come up with was 'he deserves extra points for wearing pink' !!
I think the BBC should be,about now, realizizng what a mistake they have made
They could have added Alesha to the panel to boost the dancers confidence when the experts 'slagged them off'...but kept Arlene and made the panel up to 5

Despite being one of the 'Anti-Alesha' brigade when the news was announced, I actually thought she did OK. Admittedly no controversial opinions, but she does at least know what it's like from the celebrity point of view, and they're hardly going to bring Arlene back mid-series due to public outcry, so we might as well get used to her!
That said - a far, far more logical change would have been to bring in Karen Hardy or Camilla Dallerup as the fourth judge, and I really don't understand why they didn't take that option.
Good first couple of shows tho'.
Glad Rav didn't go out - I think he's genuinely got potential.
And looks like the public are voting for the old 'uns again. Lynda (bless her) was far and away the worst, and didn't even end up in the dance-off!

You would think the BBC would have learned the lesson from the Kelly Brooke's debarcle on BGT.
That didn't work, and now the BBC have spoiled Strictly with Alesha. I gave her the benefit of the doubt, but she doesn't work. Notice how similar her marks are to Bruno's ( especially as she has just spoken to him ). I just wish they would sideline her and bring back Arlene, that won't happen though. I bet the viewing figures go down.

Well Alesha was better this week
I see in todays paper that the BBC are going to ask Arlene to choreograph one of the dances in the final..and possibly sit on the judging panel at the final....she'll be back next year..mark my words lol
The right man was voted off last night

Hasn't Simon Cowell be silent regarding the clashing since X Factor beat Strictly? LOL! Maybe if they hadn't axed Arlene they WOULD beat them and he'd have had something to worry about.

Even though Alesha has improved she still isn't right, and as far as I am concerned I would be happy to see her go ( even though we know that won't happen )
Either Camilla Dallerup or Karen Hardy would have been a better ( and knowledgeable ) replacement.
Bruce continues to annoy me with his continual interuption of the judges comments, and his inane remarks and jokes.
Did you know that the letters on his autocue are so large...that the audience have been told not to mouth the words along with him ;D
I also think they are ( apart from Craig ) marking them too high. Giving some 8 in the first week is ridiculous, what is going to happen in week 10 !! I don't think ratings for SCD will ever beat XF Patsy.
Thats it, rant over till next week. ;D

Yes she was - in fact, good enough (for me) that her being there didn't spoil my enjoyment of the show in the slightest.
Agree about the scoring - they all score too high early on - except Craig. But then, haven't they always?
And yes, agreed, I really do think it's time Brucie was pensioned off - it's getting painful to watch him. I'm not mad about Tess Daley either.
That said, some very promising contestants this year - Ricky (W), Zoe, Laila and Ali for starters, and also no-one quite as dreadful as JS was last year.
No doubt Linda and possibly Jo will be kept in longer than they really deserve, but at least they both have a modicum of talent.

Can someone explain to me how Zoe was third on the leaderboard but ended up in the dance off.?
Alesha gave Rikki a perfect 10.....he was very good, but not that perfect.!

I think the Zoe situation was partly because there were so many with 'safe' scores. I think when this happens, people tend to only vote for one or two, and she was the unlucky one!
That said, I know that James isn't particularly popular amongst viewers (self included), and on a purely personal level, altho' her dancing is good, I just can't take to Zoe somehow.
Brucie was totally out of order on Saturday.
He should not have been making personal remarks about Ali & Brian's relationship - you could see that Ali was visibly thrown by it, which could well have affected her dancing.
And he was far too OTT about Craig's remark concerning Jo. Surely 'bush kangaroo' means 'skippy' which was just what Bruno had said about her? And was that any worse than Alesha saying someone (may even have been Jo again) was like a 'broken ragdoll'? In fact I thought Craig was pretty dignified about the whole thing, unlike Brendan who behaved like the complete prat he is.
Brucie is also getting worse and worse at taking over the conversation, not letting the judges finish what they were saying.
Yes, it really is time he went.
On the dancing front, I still haven't made up my mind about favourites.
I like Ali & Brian best at the moment, tho' I agree with many that he is probably making the choreography too complex at this stage, which ius why she's having a few problems. Still think she's got huge potential tho'.
Ricky and Natalie just awesome - in fact so good that I don't really know how much he can improve, which might mean he'll suffer in the later stages of the contest, against those who show a huge improvement.
I alos think Laila has big potential, and we certainly haven't seen the best of her yet (pretty rubbish this week in fact).
I 'd like to see Chris go further - he was one of the biggest surprises for me.
Joe and Kristina were the right ones to go out this week, and I think they should shortly be followed by Craig and Flavia, or Jo and Brendan.

Brendan suceeded in getting what he wanted by storming off....the sympathy vote.
Bruce, ( by being so rude to Craig ) didn't allow him to finish what he was saying. When Criag has given a harsh criticism, he usually ends up by saying something positive and didn't get chance to do that.
I really think it is time Bruce ( I refuse to call him Brucie ! ) was retired. He comes out with some personal remarks that must make the dancers cringe.
I know what you mean about James...he's our least favourite professional as well. I thought the jives this week were very weak, but I am still curious how the marks, half the time, don't match the remarks that are made. Giving a 7 to someone they have just been slating and sarcastic about seems odd.
I thought the dance that Vincent and Flavia did was spellbinding. I am glad I recorded it and could watch it again
