So... we are getting near the end of another year in soapland. A lot has happened this year, both in front and behind the scenes. Eastenders has been doing well under a new EP, while Corrie seems to have a hit a rut.
Home & Away saw plenty of comings and goings, Neighbours was lost by the Beeb to Five, Hollyoaks went against the falling ratings trend and increased its audience while Emmerdale saw soaps first interactive murder mystery play for half the year.
So what do you think 2007 was like overall? Any stories you liked and didn't like? Here's a quick refresher course...
January: Includes Shirley's arrival in Eastenders, Charlie's death in Corrie and John Paul coming out in Hollyoaks February: Includes Victoria and Billy taking a dip in Emmerdale's lake, a birth and death in Hollyoaks and Peter back from the dead in Home and Away March: Toadie is shot in Neighbours, Sally is stabbed in Home and Away and Warren killed Sean in Hollyoaks April: Tracy sent down in Corrie, Dot acquires a baby in Eastenders and Perdy suffers an ectopic pregnancy in Emmerdale May: Drama in Emmerdale as Carl is revealed as Tom King's killer and Len dies, a car crash in Eastenders and an inferno in Corrie June: May goes psycho in Eastenders, Paul dies in Corrie and Clare pushed from a balcony in Hollyoaks
July: Carl sleeps with Grace in Emmerdale, Pepper is stalked in Neighbours and Stella dies on her wedding day in Eastenders August: Hayley learns she fathered a child in Corrie, Sky kills Terrence and is jailed in Neighbours and Rosemary disappears from Emmerdale September: Hollyoaks drama as Clare makes a show stopping exit, Melissa dies from anorexia and Craig leaves John Paul behind, Bethany swallows an ecstasy in Corrie and Ian is stalked by 'Cindy' in Eastenders October: The Sugden's at risk as Annie's Cottage explodes, Sarah and Jason's nuptials are ruined by David in Corrie and Jane is shot in Eastenders November: A siege puts Walford's residents at risk, Sally made a foolish pass at Corrie's John and Katie waited to see if she was pregnant with Perdy and Grayson's baby in Emmerdale December: ?

I voted great but that only applies to EE. LOL! Emmerdale would have been the last choice.

I said it was so-so. Some things were good, like EE introducing a load of great new characters including Jack and Heather, while other things were not so good. I gave up on Emmerdale myself. I've been an occasional viewer for quite a while, but even that stopped this year.
Corrie can be good sometimes, but then it can be so-so bad as well. It's very hit and miss. I did like Tracy's fall from grace though.

I disagree that Corrie has hit a rut - ive enjoyed it all year right from Charlie's murder, Tracy going on trial and getting sent to prison, the Connors have been great all year and I even thought the Claire and Ashley stuff wasnt that bad.
However I voted so-so based on the 4 soaps I watch - Corrie, Hollyoaks, Neighbours and Home and Away.

Well you would and we've been disagreeing about that since 2005. Can't see it changing during 2008 either. Neighbours I often miss so didn't include that. Emmerdale I've seen one full ep and a bit since about July when my wireless conked out and I didn't miss it at all. Had no inclination to watch again when I got my new router. Patsy

Patsy Since 2003 you mean! But dont you agree it would be boring if we always agreed? If we didnt respect each others opinions we wouldnt have stayed friends for 4 years. Neighbours and Holloaks for me have been so-so all year. Neighbours seems to have both good and bad episodes in any given week! Hollyoaks has had some good storylines in particular the eating disorder one but the show seems to lack something that I cant put my finger on. Home and Away IMO has been excellent all year.

LOL! Ah but it improved so I'm not counting that. Yes having the same opinion like sheep is very boring. And at least we have light-hearted disagreements. Most of the time. Patsy

thud! Its improved again if only you would give it a chance. When you stopped watching in 2006 it was bad but not its streets ahead if you excuse the pun.

Er, end of July 2005, if you please. I broke my toe on the 1st and ended the agony which was Corrie on the 27th when I watched my last full ep. And you thought I'd go back. Ha!
From what I have seen, it's still drivel. Nothing is enticing me back and the sooner Barbara quits the better then I'll have nothing to do with it ever again except old ones.

Well as long as Corrie is on air there is still a chance you will go back. Maybe when Barbara leave you will finally stop slagging the show off as well

A very slim chance. 0.00000000000000000000000000000000001% chance. You know, the same percentage Reet gave Norris. LOL! Better hope she goes quickly then. Patsy

I've voted so so too as when I've watched Corrie, Eastenders and Emmerdale they have been just so so.

I see there was another criticism of Emmerdale on Teletext and how it's gone downhill so fast.

So what has been GOOD about this year then? I think Eastenders was good a lot of the time, but in some places it has been a bit silly. Like how quickly they've all forgotten Jase's violent past. And from what I have seen of them I actually kind of like Laurel's parents in Emmerdale. And the way they wrote out Laurel for her pregnancy was very good I thought - prefilming the scenes before she went on leave, meaning that she was still off screen but not for too long. (I'm trying to move the conversation away from Patsy v Jez Round 6677422!!!! LOL)

LOL! Anyone would think we argued about Corrie all the time. Not true. Only about 75%. Yes soap characters all have amnesia. EE had some real cracking eps this year, especially the Stella climax, which was better watched as the omnibus. Patsy

What has been good this year. Well out of the soaps I watch;
Corrie - Tracy killing Charlie, the lead up to the trial, the trial itsself, Carla and Paul covering up the death at underworld, Liam telling Michelle that Paul killed Dean, the Leanne/Paul storyline resulting in Paul's death, Sally's 40th birthday, The fire at the peacocks (I thought that wasnt actually that bad), Sarah and Jason's wedding, Carla getting slapped by Tony's ex, the upcoming storyline wih Ryan also sounds good, Jim out of prison. There has been plenty of good stuff this year.
Hollyoaks - the eating disorder storyline, John Paul/Craig's affair, Claire's exit, all the stuff with Justin/Warren/Louise/Katie.
Home and Away - Peter coming back from the dead, All the stuff with Kelly and Amanda was really good resulting in Amanda's exit, Don Fisher and Morag coming back.
Neighbours Cant think of many highlights to be honest but im sure ive enjoyed some episodes lol

Scary Mary was the highlight for me in Neighbours this year. I would LOVE to see Rowena Wallace back in Neighbours

Oh I forgot about her Corrie Girl. Yes I can put her as one of my Neighbours highlights!

In Hollyoaks, I thought the birth of Amys baby was done very well...I enjoyed that storyline.
In Corrie my fave scenes this year were Traceys trial, Jason and Sarahs wedding, Hayleys son Christian, and any scene with Becky in it - she`s been wonderful this year. Emmerdale faves included Lens death, Grace getting killed (so unexpected), Rosemary confessing to Zak what she did, and the birth of Daniel Thomas. I`m months behind in Neighbours. Since I found out Harold is leaving (thankfully not forever), I just can`t show as much enthusiasm to the show as I once did - especially since Carcrash-mella became the producers new golden child.
