There`s an old saying that goes.... "opinions are like ar$eholes - everybody has one" As you are entitled to your opinion hildaogden - so are we. And as you quoted....that`s using my common sense Here Here Corriegirl! In my opinion Bet wouldnt be in the top five but Rita would

Definitely. She's a better character and, despite a lull during Kieran Roberts and before that with Anthony sodding Stephens and Alec Gilroy, has never changed personality or acting ability. Barbara's still at the top of her game and puts in the off naff performance. By the time Julie Goodyear left, she was putting in naff performances every time. All you have to do is watch that scene when Reet refuses to lend Bet the money. Barbara is brilliant. Julie is appalling. There are a lot of people who like Bet and that's their preogative as much as it's ours to hate her. You're wrong in your assessment though Bet was the last strong character. Reet is. The undoing, as you put it, was going 4 times a week in 1996.

Oh I remember that scene, Julie was appalling. And I dont know who the hell Bet thought she was demanding Reet give her money for the pub. As my mum pointed out at the time Reet was going to buy the pub so it should have been her name over the door and she should have paid Bet a wage to manage it, all that crap from Bet about splitting the profits 50/50. And then that scene where she said Rita took Len off her, IIRC Rita went out with Len before Bet slept with him. I agree Patsy, just like its my preogative to like Kate Ford IMO Bet leaving was the best thing that could have happened, and I cringe every time its suggested she comes back.

Emily Bishop is also a strong woman given the chance. How many other women of Ems age on Coronation Street would have climbed a tree to protest her beliefs? lol I just adore Emily. Eileen Derbyshire is a great actres and Corrie is lucky to have her. Long may she reign!!!

Definitely. Especially that line, "Pals?! Pals?!" Dreadful delivery from a rubbish actress. Her early performances pre-Corrie in The Dustbinmen (how the heck did she get 2 eps when she's so bad?) were cringing. But nothing as bad as later Corrie.
Yes. Bet and Len got together in 1974 I think after the engagement with Reet was over. But he was never serious about her and she knew that. So it was a pretty stupid thing for the writers to put.
Exactly. And we have friendly disagreements about that, don't we? Blimey, with you being such a KF (and Jenny) fan, we'd never have stayed friends getting on for 2 years if we'd not respected each other's opinion. LOL!

Yes, given a chance are the words. She's always been a bit wet like Mave but never had the same writing which is a shame because it doesn't endear her to people. I did so enjoy the scenes with Ashley and Emily where she felt guilty for being alive while Maxine was dead. That was good. Now if only she got more like that.

Patsy Oh I agree, the delivery of those 2 words "Pals, Pals!!?!" was appalling. I didnt miss Bet at all when she left. I thought she showed her true colours, throwing everyone out of the pub and then running off in a strop because she couldnt get her own way. And then letting Betty down on her wedding day after all the years Betty had been there for her. Reet and Len were together on and off from 1972-1974, they got engaged as far as I know in early 1974, by mid 1974 it was over. All that happened between him and Bet was a fling in early 1975. I know know all this based on videos and books ive read about Corrie. Thats very true Patsy!

I was glad Bet left too. I didn't want to see Mave, Hilda, Elsie go. But they'd not had personality transplants and maintained the same acting ability from start to finish (which in Pat Phoenix's case wasn't great but she had screen presence which Goodyear tried, and failed, to emulate).
Yeah, like all men, Len just wanted his fun and Bet was the typical tart to do it with.

Oh yes us men all want our fun. ;D I want Nathan, shame he is having none of it

That`s the great thing about this site Jez...we can`t all like the same characters. And over the years that I`ve been a fan, there have been characters I`ve absolutely detested, then slowly I`ve started to like them...and vice versa. We all respect each others opinion, and that`s why I love this site.

With no slagging off either, CorrieGirl. There's too many boards, past and present, where that happens. LOL Jez! Never mind. You might get Nathan and I might get Frazer Hines now he's single again! Patsy

Deirdre has been around long enough to be one of the 'old girls' but doesn't have the presence of Hilda, Bet or Rita. She just drags along, without the wit of her mother or the bare-faced nerve of her daughter, but a martyr to them both.

Yes. 33 years now, same as Reet. With so many eps now, will anyone really be bothered when these long-termers leave? It used to be you missed them in the subsequent eps. Or is that just me?

Patsy Yes there are a lot of board where people refuse to except someone else;s opinion, and some people can be so rude to other members. LOL Pat! I think id have more chance of having Brad Pitt (yes please! ;D) than my gorgeous friend Nathan, he is straight but we are very close friends. Anyway didnt you say Frazer enjoyed hugging you when you met, if he is single get in there girl! ;D

Deirdre was a great character in the 70s and 80s episodes, she is still very good now too. Btw its Deirdre's 50th Birthday on Friday, ive just thought she is over twice my age! ;D

They banned him in the end I think. Then he popped up on James's board and he banned him. I think Angelina would have something to say about that, Jezziekins! LOL! Oh yes. 6 kisses in 4 hours from the gorgeous Frazer and 4 of them and him throwing me over his shoulder on video so I can watch again and again! #love0002# I haven't seen him for 3 years. Oh yes. Adrian said they banned him.
Well the next is Stockton in November and if he's not there then it'll be 3 years. Haven't seen him since Stockton 2002. I know he's down for a Cardiff one (or is it Swansea?) in September. #sadd0002#
Don't think so. But 15 years ago (crikey!) a work collegue used to call me Deirdre because of my big glasses. LOL!
