EMMERDALE producers have revealed that village businessman Tom King will be brutally killed on Christmas Day – and 10 ENDINGS will be filmed to create one of British soap's biggest-ever murder mysteries. Viewers will see Tom, played by Ken Farrington, plummet to his death from a window after being attacked by a mystery intruder at his own wedding. The killer hits him over the head with a blunt object as he celebrates tying the knot with Rosemary (Linda Thorson) at a lavish Christmas Day reception in the grounds of Home Farm. The subsequent police investigation will be full of twists and turns as some of the show's most popular characters are placed at the centre of the inquiry and face fierce interrogation in the hunt for the killer. In a soap first, 10 different suspects will be filmed committing the shocking crime, meaning that even the cast and crew of the ITV1 show won't know who murdered the millionaire. And in a ground-breaking development, viewers of the Christmas Day thriller will be enlisted to help solve the mystery through Emmerdale's website, www.itv.com/emmerdale. Producers hope fans will use the website to put the pieces of the puzzle together themselves, via character weblogs, clues, secret emails and voicemails from characters in the show. Viewers can also share their conspiracy theories in an online forum in the weeks following the Christmas Day episode, before the real killer is revealed on screen. Series producer Kathleen Beedles said: "We are very excited about this storyline and thrilled to be able to involve our viewers in this unique way, giving them the opportunity to try and work out for themselves who is responsible for Tom's dramatic death." |
