Just broken on on Sky news Emmerdale's Clive Hornby has died aged 63. No more info is given but presumably it is to do with this illness that forced him to have a break from the soap. I wonder what will happen on Emmerdale now? ?

Thanks for that, Sharon. Not a lot on BBC either:
Page last updated at 09:30 GMT, Friday, 4 July 2008 10:30 UK Emmerdale actor Hornby dies at 63
Actor Clive Hornby, who played Jack Sugden in ITV1 soap Emmerdale, has died at the age 63.
It was announced in January that Hornby would be taking a break from the soap because of ill health.
The actor had been in Emmerdale for 28 years after signing up on a three-month contract and was the soap's longest-serving cast member.
Hornby, the third actor to play Jack Sugden, enjoyed success as drummer with 1960s Liverpool band The Dennisons.
Emmerdale series producer Anita Turner said she was "deeply saddened" by "a devastating loss".
"Clive will be greatly missed by everyone who has worked with him on Emmerdale during the past 28 years," she said.
"He was a hugely popular and well-respected member of cast and a terrific actor."

I'm sure our thoughts are with his family at this sad time.

I got back from my sister's sports day to read about this on teletext, i have to say i was shocked as the last report i read on the subject claimed that he was getting better, that was a few months ago though.
Emmerdale have suffered a great loss, he was a brilliant and loyal actor.
They need a fantastic exit storyline for the character as a tribute to him.

This is so very sad. I had a horrible feeling the news when it came wouldn't be good. This is going to devastate his family, fellow actors, and fans. R.I.P Clive.

awwww what a devastating loss. I`m gutted...I really am. I`m guessing it was cancer that ended his life.

Another Sugden boy dying in Spain? Annie will have lost all her children. I hope they don't kill off Jack. They can't recast but perhaps he can just stay there.

Anyone remember the rumour last year he was axed and Jack would die only for ITV to deny it? I'm wondering now if this all came about because he was ill then. I don't think he returned to work after the Christmas break as all on TV afterwards for weeks would have been filmed before then.

It was a lovely thought that tonights Emmerdale was dedicated to Clive. A pic would`ve been nice though.
I wonder how Clives passing will be written into the script? And where is Victoria lately? Is she with Jack visiting Annie?

If the family have gone against his wishes it's never known then good on them. Stops all sorts of wild rumours, especially in these times with the Internet. I hope Richard Thorp isn't having some form of survivor's guilt.

awww bless him. Even towards the end Clive was giving his fans hope that he would come back....hence the secrecy of the hospice. My prayers go out to his family and Emmerdale cast members and staff today. He was loved by all as well as his many fans. I`m sure Emmerdale will give him a nice final storyline and funeral and will make sure his character was never forgotten.

I'd imagine that they will kill the character off perhaps and give him a big send off in six to twelve months, like they did when the actor who played Seth passed away. It'd be better in one way as it gives the characters as well as the actors (past and present) a chance to dedicate a week or so of episodes to the character.
Apparently his favourite scene was following the fire which led to Sarah's death and he had to scrub Andy down in the yard to get rid of the evidence of the fire.

I liked what EE did with Mike Reid/Frank Butcher. Even though I only saw the odd ep during his time, they did him proud with their send off. Maybe Emmerdale will do something like that.

Jack is still married to Diane isn`t she? Elizabeth/Dianes tears are going to be real if they ever do film a funeral for Jack on Emmerdale. As will most of the cast...and many fans. I can remember saying on here several months ago before Clive became ill that even though Jack was such a misery guts I loved him anyway.

No idea. I thought they were a good couple and it's terrible they had her and Billy. It was also stupid that Victoria adored her until they gave her a new head and personality just so she could end up in Billy's arms. Bleurgh!
