+1 ... though I've heard it's very good - just don't have enough time to watch everything we record as it is!

No. Was The Inbetweeners any good? I might give it a look if it's any good. The UK version was very funny, but I'm not so sure about the US version as it is the same storylines played by different actors.

There's no way they can re-make Dad's Army. It had a certain quality that wouldn't work again. Some things can't be messed with. Why can't they leave things alone?

Does seem an extraordinary decision, and don't really understand why people as well known as Bill Nighy and Toby Jones would agree to do it - surely they don't need the work?

A waste of time and money, it won't work and shouldn't happen.

I'm no fan of DA but it's so embedded in our psyche any remake is bound to be a disaster.

Really??? Bring it back by all means - show endless repeats on terrestrial or cartoon network, so us oldies can reminisce, and the young 'uns can see how cartoon were done in the 80s. My little brother used to love this. When I got in from school I used to pretend I wasn't watching it (too cool), but I was watching it really! No reason why it couldn't be enjoyed again - but why are they re-making it? Leave it as it was in its original form.

They'll be amazed at what kids will watch from the old days but some people reckon no one wants long scenes, crap effects or whatever.

As regards Danger mouse, one of my abiding memories were the voices of David Jason and Terry Scott. No longer have Terry Scott sadly.

Here`s an idea.... how about making ...how can I say it.... new shows??? Libraries all across the world are just chockablock full of books that could be adapted to the screen in all kinds of genres. With childrens shows I have always wanted to see other Enid Blyton books such as the Mystery series adapted to tv. Then there are thousands of historical fiction that could be rewritten for the. Or even...*gasps* original content from up and coming authors all across the world. But no...we have cheap reality shows instead to try and save money. Remakes are just a lazy way of bringing 'new' content to our screens.

TBH it seems to be mainly the UK companies that are at fault here. There is a host of new drama shows pouring out of the US almost constantly, and most of the ones 'our' networks pick up are very, very good, and mostly ORIGINAL in concept.
Yes, the UK can produce excellent stuff - (Broadchurch, Last Tango in Halifax, Scott & Bailey, Doc Martin, and now The Honourable Woman, for example), but the good shows are few and far between, and a lot of the others are just variations on the same theme.

Paul.....have you seen the American remake of Shameless with William H Macey? Its pretty bad. The Americans like it as William H Macey is up for an Emmy. The US version of 'Life on Mars' was pretty abysmal too.

I DID say 'original' Wendy; I don't have much interest in 'remakes', and even the UK 'Shameless' didn't appeal to me I'm afraid. I was thinking more of things like Lost, Heroes, Flashforward, Mad Men, Nashville, Believe, Fargo, and now The 100 (to name just a handful).

I loved Boardwalk Empire and Mad Men Paul. There was one time I would never miss the reality shows Survivor and the Amazing Race. I didn`t even bother with them last season - nor will I watch this season either. The first 2 or 3 seasons of UK Shameless was good when Maxine Peak, James McAvery(sp) and Anne Marie Duff were in it. Once they left I lost interest in it.

There is one series I'd like to see remade, though partly because the BBC wiped some of the tapes... 'A For Andromeda'. From what I've read the first series of this early '60s sci-fi was very original and well written. If remade it would be nice to see it done in an early '60s style and setting I think. But maybe they'll have found the originals by now (along with various 'Out Of The Unknown' I've also only read of).
I mentioned earlier someplace they were filming the U.S. version of Broadchurch right near me with David Tennant. It will be retitled Gracepoint, and though filmed in Canada is supposed to be happening in some part of California. I don't see the point but maybe they think some people have trouble with the accents? I wonder if Tennant will be a Hugh Laurie on House and using an American voice? I'll have to take a peek if only to find that out.

I hate US remakes. They remove the essence of the characters including their flaws. I think David Tennant is doing an American accent in the remake. It looks like there are no extra eps of Out of the Unknown. The BBFC have only classified what's not lost for DVD release. www.bbfc.co.uk/search/releases/out%2Bof%2Bthe%2Bunknown
