As people join or get axed, I thought I'd start a separate thread for them all starting with this from the BBC:
Alison Newman to join Tue 14 Oct 2008
The Footballers Wives actress has signed up for a role in Albert Square.
You might know her best from her role as steely, calculated agent Hazel Bailey from Footballers Wives, but now Alison Newman is coming to Albert Square. She's joining the force at Walford police station - what she'll be investigating, you'll have to wait and see!
EastEnders Exec Producer, Diederick Santer is thrilled at the new signing, telling us: "'The fabulous Alison Newman is joining us for a few weeks to play the enigmatic Samantha Keeble. Samantha is tough-talking, hard-nosed and rather scary." Just how we like it!
Alison's also had roles in Rocket Man (pictured), Bad Girls, The Bill, and Holby City among others.

I'd forgotten all about the Boxercise and it seems the writers have too. Apparently the exit is something to do with his 'secret'. Pointless bloody character.

From BBC Online:
Nina Toussaint-White to join Wed 21 Jan 2009
Nina will catch Bradley's eye as ballsy and quirky Syd Chambers.
Bradley Branning's heart is about to flutter when he meets Syd Chambers, played by Nina Toussaint-White, who'll appear on screen in early February.
After reluctantly taking custody of Gumbo - a huge St Bernard dog - Bradley accidentally loses him. He finds the missing mutt in the park befriending a crossbreed called Sugar and her even lovelier owner, Syd. Will the quirky girl put a smile back on Bradley's face?
Nina says on joining the cast: "I have been a fan of EastEnders for as long as I can remember and I'm extremely excited to be working on such a great show. Standing on the Square for the first time was amazing, although very surreal. I'm looking forward to working with Charlie Clements and seeing what Syd is going to get up to."
Nina has appeared in numerous television programmes including Casualty and Primeval.

At last! Press release:
EastEnders' Masoods welcome new family member to the Square
Date: 20.02.2009 Category: TV Drama; BBC One; EastEnders
Marc Elliott will join EastEnders, playing the character of Syed Masood, appearing on screen from May 2009.
Syed is the much talked about son of Masood Ahmed and Zainab Masood who turns up in Walford to be reunited with his parents – but how will he fit back into family life?
Syed Masood is the handsome, suave and sophisticated eldest child of the Masood family.
A natural charmer, a smooth talker and the apple of his mother's eye, he's learned how to get ahead in business using his persuasive charm. He can spot an opportunity a mile off, and will pursue regardless of how reckless it seems to others.
Marc Elliott says: "It is so exciting to join the cast of EastEnders and to be working with actors such as Nina Wadia and Nitin Ganatra who I have admired for many years. The Masood family have really made a name for themselves in the Square and it will be interesting see how Syed plans to stir things up!"
Diederick Santer, Executive Producer, adds: "At last he's here! The most talked-about yet unseen prodigal son in EastEnders history. Syed is a fascinating character, and I'm sure Marc will bring his many dimensions to life with great verve. Entrepeneurial, reckless, dashing and complicated, he's set to bring surprises and chaos to the Masood family."
Marc Elliott has previously appeared in Holby and The Bill.
Marc was part of the History Boys UK theatre tour where he played the role of Akthar.

Not bothered about Garry either way but a very loud WOO-HOO about Yawn! From the Daily Mail:
EastEnders on-screen couple Kara Tointon and Ricky Groves quit soap By Daily Mail Reporter Last updated at 11:09 AM on 26th March 2009
On-screen lovers Kara Tointon and Ricky Groves are quitting EastEnders.
Kara, who plays unlucky-in-love single mother Dawn Swann, and Ricky, who plays hapless mechanic Garry Hobbs, will be written out of the BBC soap this summer.
The on/off couple, who have only recently resumed their relationship after Garry 'returned from the dead' after going missing from Walford for several weeks, will exit in an explosive storyline.
Essex-born Kara, said: 'Being at EastEnders has been the best four years of my life. The show has given me fantastic opportunities and I've been able to learn so much from the people I've worked with.
'I will always hold the show dear to my heart and will continue to be an avid fan.
'I'm excited about what the next few months have in store for Dawn and as an actress I look forward to trying new roles.'
Ricky, who joined the cast in September 2000, said: 'It is coming on to ten years now that I have been at EastEnders.
'The programme has been very kind to me over the years and it has been a wonderful experience playing the role of the lovable Garry Hobbs. However now seems a good time to try new opportunities and I am looking forward to exploring new things.'
EastEnders bosses aren't giving away what will prompt the pair to leaves Albert Square, so fans will have to wait and see if true love wins out for the on/off pair.
The soap's producer Diederick Santer added: 'EastEnders has benefited hugely from Ricky and Kara's great performances over the last few years. As individuals and together Garry and Dawn have had their share of comedy, drama and excitement and Ricky and Kara have delivered it all with talent, skill and flair.
'They've got some fantastic stuff to come - this spring and summer sees their love truly put to the test - and they go with our thanks and very best wishes.'
Kara joined the cast in September 2005 as the long-lost sister of market trader Mickey Miller, played by her real-life boyfriend Joe Swash, who won last year's I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!
During the time on the soap she also dated co-star James Alexandrou, who played Martin Fowler.
Kara's younger sister Hannah is also on actress and recently quit her role of Katy Fox in Hollyoaks.
During her four years on the soap, Dawn has been abducted while pregnant with her married lover's baby, survived a gas explosion and had her gangster fiance murdered on their wedding day.
Meanwhile Ricky, who is married to his former co-star Hannah Waterman, has had a rocky lovelife over his nine years on the soap.
He entered the show as unfaithful boyfriend to Lynn Slater and the couple had an on/off romance before marrying.
The couple ended up splitting when Lynn lost their unborn child while eight months pregnant.
For several months, Garry believed he was the father of Laura Beale's child Bobby after their brief fling and was devastated when he discovered her estranged husband Ian was the biological dad.

I`m glad I saved those flags, because now it`s time to put them up again wooohooooooo Strangely enough, and I never thought I`d say this, but I`m glad too see Garry leave more than Dawn. For me his true colours came in when he was so hateful to Heather, and I despised him for it ever since. He`s such a spoiled brat. I don`t particularly care for Heather one way or the other, but to put her down constantly was just spiteful. He`s not exactly skinny himself. Wow has it really been 9 years since Garry Hobbs came into it? Didn`t know it was that long.

From the Sun:
Enders’ 1st wheelchair star in 24yrs
By CARA LEE
Published: Today
A DISABLED actor is joining EastEnders - the first in the soap's 24-year history.
Wheelchair-bound David Proud, 26, will play Oxford uni student Adam Best - who stays in Walford with mum Manda during the holidays.
Executive producer Diederick Santer said yesterday: "We've had a number of characters with disabilities - like Jean Slater who suffers bi-polar disorder.
"But this is the first time we've had a regular adult character with a visible disability played by an actor with a disability. It's about time.
"David is a fine young actor with a wonderfully dry comic delivery, playing an interesting - and possibly irritating - character."
Snobby Adam is self-possessed and isn't keen on his mum's boyfriend Minty.
Sparks may also fly as he takes a shine to Oxford wannabe Libby Fox - Darren Miller's girlfriend.
David said: "I am honoured to be joining such a talented cast and looking forward to bringing Adam to life."

From BBC:
The Gentle Touch arrives in Walford
Sat 17 Oct 2009
Jill Gascoine will shock the Mitchells as Glenda with her arrival in Albert Square.
Jill Gascoine, star of C.A.T.S. Eyes and The Gentle Touch will arrive in Walford in the New Year playing Glenda Mitchell, long lost mother to Ronnie and Roxy.
Glenda causes a shock when she turns up in Walford unannounced! She was Archie’s beautiful, quiet and dutiful wife, but walked out on him when her daughters were in their early teens.
The girls have always been left in the dark as to why she left, but if Glenda’s marriage to Archie was like his short-lived relationship with Peggy, it wouldn't have been an easy marriage! However, the girls have never forgiven her for abandoning them.
Glenda arrives in the Square polished, demure, dynamic and assured. But is this the real Glenda? Neither Roxy, Ronnie, or Peggy can quite believe that the nervous and quiet Glenda they knew all those years ago has transformed into the self-made woman they see before them. Ronnie Mitchell
There are so many unanswered questions - what does she want and why has she turned up now? Why, did she walk out? And how will the Mitchells react to her arrival?
Actress, Jill says of joining the show: "I’m thrilled to be joining the cast EastEnders and I am really excited to be back on British TV.
Diederick Santer, Executive Producer adds: “I’m so looking forward to welcoming the hugely talented Jill to EastEnders. I have a very clear memory of watching C.A.T.S. Eyes every Friday night, while - to the fury of my mother - munching my way through an entire packet of Jaffa Cakes.
Jill’s character, Maggie Forbes, was always my favourite - tough, glamorous, and exciting - perfect qualities for Glenda Mitchell.

Glynis Barber takes over as Mitchell mum.
Sat 24 Oct 2009
The actress will replace Jill Gascoine, who withdrew from filming last week.
Glynis Barber will be the new Glenda Mitchell in EastEnders , stepping in after Jill Gascoine left the show. Diederick Santer
“Glynis Barber comes to EastEnders having worked frequently across a range of television, film and stage roles," revealed Executive Producer Diederick Santer. "Glynis’ big break came in 1984 when she was cast as Makepeace in a major British and American co-production of the series Dempsey & Makepeace. Most recently, viewers will have seen Glynis in the cast of Emmerdale (2007) as DCI Grace Barraclough and in ITV’s The Royal.” Jill Gascoine
“I was so looking forward to playing Glenda," explained Jill Gascoine, "but having spent the last 15 years working in America, largely acting in single drama and writing fiction, I felt on arrival I lacked the right experience to film such a big continuing drama.
"I have tremendous respect for EastEnders and the cast so I didn’t want to let the show or my fellow cast members down. I’m really sad that I won't now play a part in EastEnders but I'd like to wish Glynis Barber the best of luck in the role of Glenda.” A brief history…
Glenda is Archie’s first wife and has not seen her two daughters Roxy and Ronnie since they were teenagers, something that they have never forgiven her for. She makes a surprise return to Walford and is not the shy, quiet and nervous Glenda that everyone remembers.
Keep a look out in the New Year for her arrival.
