I`ve figured out that part of my dislike for Tracey is the fact she isn`t Dawn Acton, and I still resent it.
With the scenes of Tracey acting her heart out when she called her mother a cow, and the scenes with her and Samir just before he died... and thenTracey today in 2006, it seems like 2 totally different characters. If the writers had written the scenes of DA getting pregnant by Steve McD, I would`ve welcomed the storyline eagerly. But because it`s KF I just roll my eyes. The difference being, DA can act...KF can`t.
I hope KF`s days are numbered when DL leaves

Me too. Though she reckons she's not going anywhere as she loves it. More likely can't get any other work. There'll only be Kieran left batting for her but he's more ITV drama do-dah so hopefully won't be in any position to help out.

Well I think I like Kate Ford as Tracy partly because I wasnt overly keen on Dawn Acton so I dont mind it that she lost out to Kate Ford.

I agree whole-heartedly jez. I never rated DA much either. In fact I still wonder whether some of the anti-brigade are watching the same person as I am, when they slag off KF's acting.
I reckon a good 50% of the cast are worse actors than she is, and some by a very, very large margin (Bruce Whosit to name the most obvious).
I still maintain that for most of the 'Antis', it's somehow personal, and I really don't get it. Surely TPTB can swap character heads when they feel like it (and it's been done many times in other soaps). Even if it does involve some nepotism - so what? I bet it isn't the first time, and is unlikely to be the last.
No, she's doing a great job IMO, and it's rather weird that the only 'Antis' I've ever come across have been in forums. Elsewhere, and talking to friends/family, everyone loves to hate Tracy, and reckon KF is great in the part!.
My only gripe is that her character does get too much airtime, compared to others, but that is my only complaint, and surely not one that can be laid at her door personally anyway?

Yes there are quite a few that are worst than her, Bruce Jones definately and Sam Robertson who lets face it is only there for his looks.

I don`t think Sam Robertson is all that good looking anyway...if he`s the one who plays Adam Barlow.
And yeah I agree, Bruce Jones isn`t exactly up to Sir Ian McKellans standard is he. He thinks if he shouts his lines, he`ll be more convincing as a bully - but he isn`t.

I have said several times if they had to recast they could have got someone better than KF. She grins, shoves her hands in her pockets, hardly looks at who she's talking to, says her lines in the same tone, can't do tears even though she reckons she can easily. You never know most of the time if she's meant to be sarky, funny or what. She is not getting over the lines the way they should be. She is one-dimensional. These days with tough schedules it's a learning ground but she's still the same. The whole point is Daran never intended for anyone but KF to get that part, right down to having Dawn audition for her own part. He says KF was the best. So what were the worst like?
Half the problem these days with casting is they go for looks over talent. There are far too many excellent actors and actresses out there who are unemployed because they haven't got the right looks. They think viewers want to lust over these people. There are some that do. But most want proper acting.

I agree Pats. You would think that to recast anyone, they would at least have some sort of resemblance to the previous character, but there`s none whatsoever. As I said before, it`s like 2 completely different characters.
The girls replacing the younger Rosie and Sophie Websters are excellent characters and they do resemble both younger Rosie and Sophie, so it can definatly be done.

It is two completely different characters. Watching the old eps you could see that dawn, even though not that great an actress, actually did convey what she was meant to be doing. KF paid a fortune to go to drama school and is just as crap in this as she was in Doctors back in 2000. It's no wonder acting standards have fallen when they take the money and let anyone through, talented or not. Look at Bradley Walsh. Stand-up comedian and knocks spots off KF in the acting stakes. Even Neville Buswell, who hasn't acted since 1978 apart from that cameo in the Viva Las Vegas video wiped the floor with her.

I disagree about them having a resemblance to the previous character. Look at Hayley in Home and Away, the old Hayley is blonde and the new one has dark hair and looks completely different.
Remember Kate Ford is playing the character of Tracy, not Dawn Acton.

Same with Pippa changing her from short blonde to tall brunette overnight. Sue Nicholls was replaced in Crossroads overnight too and the character went from blonde brummie to posh brunette.
Yes but this charatcer of Tracy flies in the face of everything they've ever written before. And as I've also said before, she had Linda Baldwin lines so it's obvious she was an afterthought when plans to bring back Linda in 2002 came to nothing. It's too much of a coincidence a couple of months later they were saying it was Tracy.
By the way, last time I looked, the Imdb listed KF as being in a film. That's wrong. There's an Americal actress called Kate Ford who is in her late 30s/early 40s who was in that film.

LOL! There's a pic of her somewhere online. Since UK KF is meant to have so many fans, I thought a while ago I'd do a search for any fan sites and found zero. Anyway this US one had dark curly hair as far as I remember.

I was watching Corrie on Channel 9 yesterday from the end of October 2003. KF was in it and you know what? Believe it or not she is actually worse now than she was then! She was quite tolerable back then watching it all this time later. Still awful but there is a huge difference between then and now. How can anyone get worse? Maybe she's got so cocky thanks to DL she thinks she is invincible so can be as bad as she wants.

Me neither Jez. Thankfully it was off for the cricket yesterday. No idea if it's on today as Juanita gets no paper or listings mags. Can't be bothered to check the website. But that ep had the first mention of Chesney, Lucy got jealous when she saw Peter and their son with Shelley. And er.... I think the next one is Halloween since there was mention of Fred making Dracula pies.
Fingers crossed indeed, CG! Their New Year resolution should have been to axe her pronto!

Patsy Mummy and Daddy spent £30,000 plus on a 3 year course at one of the top dramas chools in the country. As part of the package you have to buy your own degree and you get set up with an agent (don't have to go round looking for one) get entered into one of those actors looking for work websites, and get an equity card. Basically you buy yourself into acting. |
