What I don`t understand is.... how did EE win best soap if they didn`t have any decent storylines when Corrie won best storyline with Mikes alzheimers? It`s complete bollocks that`s why I stopped watching. It`s not sour grapes honestly....well maybe a little. But for the life of me I can`t think why EE got the best soap award when the actors are leaving in droves. Kudos to Bradley Walsh from Corrie though.....and Ursella from Emmerdale.

i agree with you how did EE win best soap, all year it has been slagged off either in the papers or letters on teletext, I'm sure these awards are rigged

Those people who voted the Alzheimer's best storyline must be seriously demented. It was one of the worst ever because of so many corners being cut. They never had the bottle to do it properly. EE is better. I wouldn't still be watching a year on it if wasn't because I hate the thing. Well done to them and Charlie Clements. He's proved what an excellent young actor he is over the past week.
I case anyone's wondering about the head to head with Em last Thursday, Em was ahead but then after 7.30 EE's ratings went up while Em's went down. I'm surprised they didn't report that in the papers. But then it's currently EE bashing in them (alternating with Corrie bashing) so they wouldn't. Em only beats it when there's some huge over-hyped storyline.

Some people enjoyed the storyline so that is why they voted for it. Personally I voted for the Leanne/Danny/Frankie storyline as I enjoyed that more. And Corrie is the only soap I watch out of the main 3 now because Emmerdale ive gone right off these past few years, and the 6 nights a week schedule is ridiculous. So I think Corrie is way ahead of the other two!

Emmerdale hasn't really moved on in the past 6 months. The Alzheimer's was so inaccurate it was a joke. EE, despite the BBC Cockney, is superb at the moment. Even Barbara Windsor isn't irritating me as much as usual and I've never liked her. Last Thursday's ep was tear-jerking and yesterday's was hilarious.

I found Emmerdale rubbish, thats why I stopped watching earlier this year after about 13 years or being a regular viewer.
Cant stand Barbara Windsor either, makes me glad im not watching EE.

I would have preferred the Danny/Frankie/Leanne storyline over the Altzheimers one also. I think it got the sympathy vote more than anything else though....it really was too rushed to make it plausable. A weeks more research on the writers part and the storyline would have been superb. It did say in the Sun that EE hasn`t won the best soap at the TV Quick awards for 3 years. That can`t be right surely? I could have sworn EE won last year.

No Corrie won 2 years running in 2004 and 2005 so they were right. It was the NTA that EE won last year. Ive a horrible feeling they will win again this year, its all so predictable isnt it.

Last year was Corrie's worst since 2003 and yet there was no Corrie bashing. Papers are fickle.

Some episodes were dire last summer on Corrie, but its come on in leaps and bounds since then and is back on top at the moment. I cant fault the show currently.

I`m wondering what timeframe those judges at TV Quick based their votes on. If EE won soley on that episode last November on Armestice Day with Alfie and Nana Moon then I approve. If it was for anything else after that then bollocks to `em all ;D

Its not voted by the judges but by the readers of TV Quick and TV Choice. These mags are more biased towards EE when it comes to covers, so Corrie did well to win 2 years running IMO.

Covers have nothing to do with what people vote for. ITV is biased towards Corrie and EE and do the NTAs and Soap Awards. Doesn't stop EE winning though.

But because they put Eastenders on the cover more often that suggests that more EE fans read these magazines so they are bound to get more votes.
Its unfair that one soap dominates the magazine covers.

More youngsters....teens mostly buy the magazines based on what`s on the covers and being as EE have mostly teens and young `uns in the show then it`s no wonder EE won this year. Oh well, hopefully it`ll be Corries turn next year.

Teens only go for who they fancy so should be banned from voting. But then it would help if the programmes themselves (not just soaps) went for proper actors instead of 'totty'.
Just because EE may be on all the covers doesn't mean they will buy every single magazine. The Radio Times is still a top seller despite being crap and boring (as it's always been) and they rarely put soap stars on the cover. TV Times still sells well and they don't always put EE on theirs. Explain that one.

Radio Times and TV Times are much fairer when it comes to covers I have to say. TV Choice, TV Easy and Whats on TV really take the piss with the amount of EE covers - they might as well rename the mags as Eastenders Easy, Whats on EE etc. They need to realise that they are tv mags for tv shows not just soaps!
TV Times often have a Corrie cover but they dont have awards in that mag anymore.

No and the TV Times awards were better than the ones now. You needed real talent to even get in the shortlist.

Maybe thats why they ended because they would only be made a mockery like the awards these days.
The only ones that I feel really count for something are BAFTA's and NTA. Even the soap awards I feel are a bit of a joke.

Also in the TV Times's day there was no 'Sexiest' and people voting for who they fancy or because it was their fave show regardless. People nominated were because they had talent. Okay so Noele Gordon won a record 8 times so they created a Hall of Fame to stop her winning more. But generally the same people weren't up every year. We know the likes of Barbara would never win a viewer vote today. Yet she was up against tough opposition in 1989 when she did win from proper programmes.
