But they are more particular these days when it comes to recording them and they have to be 100% right even if it they have to do 10 takes, yet on Corrie and Crossroads in the 1960s/1970s fluffed lines and other mistakes got left in.

So did Corrie. Pat Phoenix was terrible for fluffing her lines. Corrie had its fair shares of line fluffing and wobbly sets but it was never picked up on because it was more 'respected'. Anything with a low budget got the stick. You still got wobbly sets, booms in shot, fluffed lines in Corrie long after Crossroads ended. Shows were shot as live in those days and anyway, fluffing lines is more realistic. How often do you say something and it comes out wrong? Happens to me quite a few times.

Yeah I said in my post "both Corrie and Crossroads left stuff in" Yeah I agree. I often get my words wrong LOL! And it would be more realistic if they let them ad lib stuff as well.

Ad-libbing would be great. Maybe they should ad-lib the entire script. LOL!

In the early days of both soaps..each episode was recorded as if it was live..it went from one scene to the next without a break in filming..thats why sometimes they do fluff their lines..and you can hear things crashing in the background. There is one scene in about episode 8 where Elsie and linda are talking in their living room and you hear an off screen crash and Pat phoenix jumped but they carried on
In my crossroads book Sue lloyd said the only way to get a scene re-recorded was to swear as if it was a mistake...the producer would venomously say 'CUT' and they would have to go right back to the beginning and record it all over again.
I used to love Crossroads,..I always remember as a kid getting each weeks TVTimes to have a look at 'This Weeks cast;' to see who was coming back after a long break..and i'd run to my mum and say 'Mum..Miss Diane is back next week' or 'Mum Shughie is back next week'..I used to get really excited lol most kids were out playing football lol

LOL! I never used to do that but when I found out Angus Lennie was going to be at a convention I was going to I was so excited. For months I bored my friend with "Shughie, Shughie, Shughie". Then when Mark Eden was announced poor Angus got relegated to second best guest and it was "Alan, Alan, Alan" for the 3 weeks before. LOL! He was just as lovely though and fascinated with my Jane Rossington Crossroads Years book I took for him to sign which he'd never seen before. A living legend! Pity my eyes were closed. Stan Harvey (2) played by Terry Molloy in March 2002. Don't mention Crossroads! Friends again Patsy

Just found my write up of meeting Terry Molloy. Pity the Angus Lennie one has disappeared into cyberspace. He tried to strangle me! Can you believe that? I thought he liked me, but he decides to lunge for my throat! Maybe it's because I mentioned Crossroads which he said he's trying to get away from. Seriously, he's a really lovely bloke and completely down-to-earth. He mingles and chats when he's not doing anything else and even carries his own bags! In fact yesterday he was due to put up a shed in his garden but was hoping it would rain. I chatted to him for about 10 mins on Saturday during one of his mingling sessions. He told me he was trying to get away from Crossroads and I said there's no way he can do that especially with this revivial. He said they asked Edward Clayton to come back but he told them to eff off (I won't use the exact words Terry used), so Bill Smethurst drafted him in as he's in The Archers too. I forgot to ask about his crap accent but there you go. Anyway he was up for a part in this new one (though didn't say what) but there was a train crash the same day he was due to see them, the interview got cancelled and he never heard anything else. But he's glad he's not in it as he's not impressed either. He said they're not even trying. Also he agreed about the crap selection for New Year's Honours! I like this man even better!!!! Yes he *did* try to strangle me. One minute we're standing there waiting for Robin to take the pic, next he's got his hand round my throat! That was so much fun I can't wait for them to arrive!!!! He even gave me a goodbye kiss at the end on Sunday before leaving. He's so friendly and one of the few who are unpretentious. If you ever get to meet him you'll come away thinking he's a really nice guy. And I told him when I got back I was going to tell all of you what a great guy he is - and I have! He was the opposite of what I expected and although he's a crap Stan Harvey compared to Ted, you can't fault him as a person. Patsy

I got my Volume 3 DVD today and have watched 3 of the episodes tonight.
I watched the final 2 on the 2nd disc as ive waited ages to see these episodes. One question - how come Jill was able to just walk onto the QE2 just like that? Can anyone just do that. Also I noticed she didnt tell her mother about the fire so did Meg ever find out? I noticed what you told me about Nolly not putting much effort into those scenes because they had sacked her.

This isn't about DVD' but a question about Crossroads actors ( or actor )
I read the other day that Luke Roberts (Joseph Byrne in Holby ) played one of the Samson brothers, I have been racking my brains to work out which........was he the quiet one, or the other one. And was he the one that was 'friendly' with John Majors daughter-in law. ??

Jez, you used to be able to in the old days. You could even stand on the dockside to wave them off. There's a public viewing gallery at the terminal which is great. But since 9/11 they don't allow anyone in now. You can't go in to even have a look around if you're not going onboard, as Nick found out. If you have a friend or relative with you they only get as far as check in. That's right. You can tell everything she says in the scene is insincere. Don't blame her really but at least they never killed Meg off.
Sooty, I didn't take much notice of it because it's not Crossroads. Jez is more likely to know.

I was surprised at how different his character is in Holby but that shows he is a good actor.

I had no idea people could just wonder on to it and have a look around! I noticed they gave the announcement asking people not travelling to leave when Jill was on there. No but according to the Crossroads book it says it was mentioned that Meg had died much later on in the series? No idea if thats true as its full of mistakes isnt it.

The only time I remember them mentioned Meg in the past tense was in the ressurection in 2001 and Kate was saying to Jill that her mother was 'still talked about and held in very high regard' or something like that

I remember that too Nick - they referred to her as Meg Richardson rather than Meg Mortimer though, and Adam Chance and Doris Luke would only have know her as Meg Mortimer I think? Im sure Doris and Adam both joined in 1978.
I wonder why Jill reverted to the name Harvey in the 2001 Crossroads - she was Jill Chance in 1988, and of course if its true she married John whats his name she would have taken his name? Im sure the reason the writers did it was because Sarah Jane was in it and she was called Sarah Jane Harvey but it didnt make sense.
I watched some more of Crossroads this afternoon. Ive still got about 3 episodes left to watch plus the omnibus thing on the 3rd disc.

Meg being dead was casually mentioned in later years the way Sandy's death was. No mention on screen at the time. Just in retrospect.
Didn't I point that out to you about Meg's name? It was one thing which really bugged me about that crap. Adam was Hugh's lawyer and only met Meg after Hugh's death. Jill and Stan were friends, not the enemies they made out. Jill often visited Sarah Jane in Germany and SJ visited her. It was Stan who persauded her to sell her 30% to Major International Hotels in 1985 meaning she had no shares when they brought it back. Then she went to Germany with him to visit Sarah Jane. Sarah Jane ran away in 1987 and Adam found her at the hotel (not motel) looking for her mum. Stan came over (as played by Terry Molloy on the previous page) and she went back with him. So also Jill wasn't the absentee mother they claimed either.

I remember she was always nipping off to germany
I remember when Stan came back in 1985..because that was supposed to be Noele Gordon coming back, but she was too ill..so they wanted a face from Jill's past to support her so they contacted Ted Clayton to see if he would come back and he said yes...the lines he spoke were meant for Meg

Patsy It is quite annoying how they mention Meg and Sandy as being dead - if they had already left the show couldnt they have just been alive off screen somewhere? Although I suppose since Roger and Nolly died in real life they wanted to highlight the fact neither would return as it wouldnt be right to recast. Yes I think it was - see I do pay attention I remember some people at the time Crossroads came back in 2001 saying Jill's name shouldnt have been Harvey. I dont think they mentioned Jill's son Matthew in the new series of Crossroads.

Adjustments? LOL! There were many arguments between old and new fans. But as soon as Carlton's b/s said about turning a run down motel into a 5 star hotel (or whatever it was) the new fans started to see where we were coming from because even they knew it had been a hotel when it ended in 1988.
Jezziekins, well Roger Tonge was just off screen unlike Nolly who you saw leave and then return briefly. They really should have mentioned Meg dying though rather than in passing later on. Yes I was one of them and still am. If you loathe your ex as much as they reckoned Jill did Stan (which was wrong), she certainly would never have called herself Harvey 'because she liked the name'. As she was meant to be married to the drip who then died just before she turned up in King's Oak with 30% of shares she sold in 1985 to Major International Hotels, she would have been Maddingham. I remember the mention of Matthew but that was it. No details like no Jill asking Doris about the people who used to work there, when she went back or when she became glam instead of frumpy.

Yeah even I knew that LOL!
I remember you saying that Jill would have asked Doris about Benny and the others who were still working there. Doris had left Crossroads before the end in 1988 but I dont know whether it was explained how she was back working there. Yeah they made Doris glam.

It never was. She was just there. Stupid ploy to get the older fans watching just like having Adam and Jill yet all three had personality transplants and were unrecognisable from their original characters.

Well I guess it was just about believable that Doris had returned to Kings Oak and was working at Crossroads. However they still invented a nephew for her.
