Echo Beach is a new ITV soap and drama concept to be aired in the United Kingdom in January 2008. "Echo Beach" and "Moving Wallpaper" are to be two different shows, Echo Beach being the main soap opera, and Moving Wallpaper to be an Extras (TV series) style 'mocumentary' based on the production of Echo Beach.
Echo Beach
Set in the fictional Cornish coastal Town of Polnarren, the show is centered around Susan Penwarden (Martine McCutcheon), and her ex love interest Daniel Marrack (Jason Donovan).
Other characters include Mark Penwarden played by Hugo Speer, and Fin Morgan, played by Johnny Briggs.
There will be appearances by Edward Speelers, Marcus Patric, Laura Greenwood, Christian Cooke, Jonathan Readwin, Naomi Ryan,Chandeep Uppal, Hannah Lederer Alton, and Patrick Adolphe
Moving Wallpaper.
This is a mocumentry about the production of Echo Beach, with fictional producer Johnathon Pope being played by Ben Miller. Characters from Moving Wallpaper will also cross over into Echo Beach, with ex footballer's wives star Susie Amy, playing an actress trying to get a line in Echo Beach, and succeeds, playing the role of Angela. Unusually, Moving Wallpaper will actually be the main show on ITV1 with Echo Beach being broadcast the same night on ITV2.

It sounds interesting doesn't it? Its definitely something new and fresh anyway. I wonder will it "work" though as many new concepts (Night & Day, even Crossroads 2003) haven't worked in terms of ratings before.
Also it has been referred to as a soap by ITV and everywhere else, but its only on for either 8 or 12 episodes I think.

I dont think its a soap really - more a drama.
It does look good and something different though, I agree.
However that article is wrong - originally it was meant for ITV2 but now I understand both Echo Beach and Moving Wallpaper will be on ITV1.

I think it will follow more of a drama format though CG and if sucessful will be commisioned for a further series of episodes.
Word is thats its going out at 9pm on ITV1 in a 1 hour slot with Moving Wallpaper going out the following night at the same time. Its being called a soap but it will probabaly be more of a soapy drama. lol

Its being called a soap but it will probabaly be more of a soapy drama. lol I agree that it'll probably be a soapy drama, as opposed to a soap. The storylines will be like that of a soap, but it'll only be on for one hour-long episode a week.

Just to remind people that these two kick off this Thursday 10th Jan on ITV1
Moving Wallpaper 21:00 Echo Beach 21:30
The following two episodes are on Friday 11th Jan, at the same time.
Looking forward to this - I like the fact that Moving Wallpaper is a comedy, and Echo Beach is straight soap/drama. Martine McCutcheon has said she really enjoyed taking the p1ss out of herself, by being a bit 'prima donna-ish' in Moving Wallpaper (I believe the actors play themselves in Moving Wallpaper)
Very original concept I think.

She's only 31, but plays 40. Must be flattering!!! I'm really looking forward to these two and The Palace, and Honest with Amanda Redman as well. Its on now actually so I better go watch!

Honest was rubbish - I switched over after 5 mins. Hope Echo Beach and Moving Wallpaper are better tommorow night.

I watched all of Honest and it started bad, but got rather good once Amanda Redman got to do her "We're going straight - no more criminals in this family speech". Don't know if I'll watch next week though. The Palace, starting Monday, looks good as well. Oh and Primeval of course! But MP and EB should be good tonight...
Martine confesses 'Wallpaper' frustration
Martine McCutcheon has revealed that she sometimes felt frustrated by the unique concept of her new TV project.
The actress signed up to play housewife Susan Penwarden in soap Echo Beach, as well as a neurotic version of herself in its sister show Moving Wallpaper, which follows the programme's fictional production team.
McCutcheon has admitted that she sometimes got tired of being asked to film scenes for Moving Wallpaper on top of her work for Echo Beach.
"My only gripe was you have double the workload," Martine is quoted by the The Mirror as saying. "Just as you think 'oh brilliant, I've got the day off', the Moving Wallpaper producer would say: 'Oh, by the way, you're in the back of shot looking at your fan mail.'"
Moving Wallpaper starts tomorrow night at 9.00pm on ITV1, with Echo Beach following at 9.30pm.

Moving Wallpaper and Echo Beach were really good IMO. Echo Beach is a trashy soap which wouldnt work without Moving Wallpaper. Its because Moving Wallpaper is basically taking the mickey out of it is what makes Echo Beach good viewing! Nice to see something different on ITV. I will definately watch both again tommorow night.

I loved them. You didn't need to watch Moving Wallpaper but if you didn't you missed the 'in' jokes that appeared in Echo Beach. I thought Ben Miller was hilarious in MW All in all I thought they were enjoyable, and the scenes of Watergate Bay ( on which I have walked many times ) were beautiful

Echo Beach probabaly would have been a bit crap if it wasnt for MW. It was the fact that they are taking the pee out of Echo Beach in MW that made it so good. Sort of a spoof thing.
Not really Corriegirl - most of the guys in Echo Beach are teenagers, Christian Cook is ok but he is a bit young for me lol! Dare I say it but Ben Miller from MW is quite nice. Dont expect you will want to fight me for him though lol
