I've read a few times, in the past - although I don't remember where, so I'm afraid I can't provide a link for reference - that truth drugs and lie detectors are inaccurate. Ok for parlour tricks - but too unreliable to be used as proper evidence in a legal trial. More than once Jeremy Kyle has looked a plum when his lie detector tests didn't work out the way he was expecting them to - but his show is supposed to be a counselling/self-help show (HA! of course it is NOT a freak show), and is not designed to provide any evidence in a court case. I just wonder what additional evidence the police found after first letting Michael go: maybe there's crucial eye witness evidence, for example. Do the cops listen to pesteration by parents? Would they cave in to pressure? If the girl's family kept insisting that Michael be charged with something, and there was no substantial evidence - they would have to tell them to drop it. But they seem to think it worth charging him.

I think that's a very valid point Pearly.

Whatever the outcome of this trial, he doesn't come across as a very pleasant individual.

Yes and it's a shame the prosecution has rested unless the barrister is going to tear witnesses apart. Is his ex-wife being called, I wonder?

We wondered about his ex-wife too and why they split?

I bet it was because of his drinking and one night stands. Everyone has their breaking point, and his wife probably reached hers.

Wow he was cleared of all charges. I can`t see him returning to Corrie anytime soon though. Possibly in 2014, all depends on the EP I suppose.

As has already been mentioned, he really doesn't seem like a very savoury person, despite being cleared, so would not bother me in the slightest if he didn't come back.
I believe the damage has been done, and people are always going to have their doubts, innocent or not.

Still, he has been found NOT guilty of child rape
you can't really sack him because he is a heavy drinker (They stood by Kevin Kennedy) or because he has had some one night stands..that doesn't really have anything to do with his work

Perfectly put Nick and Paul. I read the other day that a few people have been arrested for putting the victims name up on Twitter. That was wrong, they shouldn`t have done that.

Time for anonymity until guilt proven. I am still disgusted at Theresa May rejecting it when this lot came into power. You can understand the man hating Labour not doing it.

His reputation as a sleazy, womanising drunk won't do him any favours with Corrie bosses - I believe that berk Bruce Jones was written out as Les Battersby for being a drunken embarassment. If they dump Kevin, I won't care - the character had become quite horrible in latter years: the affair with Molly and his obsession with Sally made him difficult to watch.

I wished they had written him out when he had that affair with Natalie Horrocks. There`s not much Kevin as a character can do anymore. The garage is hardly mentioned, and now Sally is involved with Tim - Kevin like his garage is a spare part.

PQ.... as far as I know I don`t think Michael`s drinking off set disrupted filming like Bruce Jones drunken bouts did. Michael seemed more of a professional than Bruce ever did. I hope that Bruce Jones and Vicky`s Enthwhistles(sp) appearances on CBB won`t earn them a way to go back to Corrie. I always disliked Janice, and never did have any time for Les.

Remember the drugs stuff that 'Dev' and Lloyd' were going through, ITV were very supportive. I think there was a lot more to what 'Les' was doing...racial abuse etc.

According to reports, he can go back if he cleans up his drinking.

That`s fair enough, and a good move by TPTB. As far as I know, Michael has been professional in the past and not let his drinking interfere with his filming. And by doing this, it sends a message for the younger ones to clean up their act too.

I have a load of questions about this case - which will probably never be satisfactorily answered. What happens to his accuser now? Was the whole case based on pure spite and malice? If not a single word of her accusation was true - I find it hard to believe that someone so young could dream that stuff up alone. Is she disturbed in the head and/or being exploited by someone else - someone who saw an opportunity to destroy a celebrity and puppetted her in order to claim a pile of compo? And if she IS disturbed in the head - why? What caused her to be so screwed up? Mental illness? Was she got at sexually by someone else - but blamed Michael because it was easier to go for him than the real culprit? There's obviously something not quite right with her, and a very expensive and high profile court case later - she didn't get what she was expecting. The police and courts did their bit. So do Social Services and shrinks now start quizzing her about by she said that stuff?

Great news. I hope he won`t be paired with Sally again - that would be boring. How old is Jack now? Nearly 3? Maybe Stella and Gloria will be gone by then, so Kevin can have his house back.
