Title says it all really. Turn on PC, starts to come on then all I get is a black screen and am totally unable to do anything but turn it off manually and start again.
Anyone else had this and if so any bright ideas to fix it....other than take it into the garden and shoot it !!

Not as such but I have had the screen go off due to some gizmo inside which then fixes itself. How old is it? Mines nearly 3 1/2. I have a new one but keep using this.

I have Windows 7. This wretched thing is driving me to distraction, I have a horrible feeling I will have to get someone in to sort it.

There were some bits in it that could be useful Wendy. The trouble is I am a complete novice at techy stuff..I am always sure I am going to make stuff worse.
Today, it took 6 go's to get the ruddy thing to come on, and I never know how long it will be before the screen goes blank again.
It doesn't just get a black screen, sometimes it's blue, or green and we have even had it white and blue striped.!!
I wanted to restore the thing to an earlier date but it wouldn't let me put a date it.....it chose last friday and its been playing up longer than that.
We are thinking maybe a laptop is the way forward but I like a mouse.

At the beginning of the week it took 8 tries to get the pc to come on. When it did it put a message up (In my speak not the pcs ;D) you have done something to b***** things up, would you like us to restore and repair it !! I clicked yes, it did a lot of faffing about restating etc and now goes twice as fast without black screening. I have to wonder what I did to cause it !!

I`m so glad that things are working for you Sooty. I had visions of you installing a new hard drive. We had a power outage last week that lasted over 3 hours. The power company AEP said thousands of people in the area were without power. Anyway while we were without power hubby installed another hard drive, 2 internal fans, and an internal card reader in my pc. A few hours later, hubby took a reading of the mother board and it was 20 degrees cooler with that other fan. My pc still isn`t working like it should, so next week I`m going to move my stuff I don`t want to lose onto the new hard drive and reformat the c drive.

Aww sod it. Looks like you have to get all your stuff off there that you don`t want to lose, save it on a ram stick or DVDs, and then reformat the hard drive. Is your hard drive still under warranty Sooty?

Not sure how long I will be around for (at the moment). Because the PC is still under guarantee, it has to go back to the Medion factory (in Germany) either they will sort it or I will get a new one. Either way, that is why I may suddenly disappear

The PC finally returned from it's German holiday yesterday ;D(it would have been back two weeks ago but for assorted cock ups) The trouble is when you speak to someone, it's never the same person twice...and they are never in the same country twice! We ended up going to UK Medion headquarters (who happened to be a 10 minutes drive away, and they sorted it face to face. We would have been still waiting if we hadn't been there. If I could make a law it would be to only have these helplines in the UK!! If it hadn't been under guarantee, we could have taken it to our local pc fixer (who is excellent) and we would have had it beck within the week.!! Mind you, it would have cost a bit as it had a few things replaced.

Had PC trouble again. This time something called a Trojan Horse!!
My SIL came and sorted it for me. He works for Honda so we are all keeping our fingers crossed for his job.

Trojan Horse is just a collective name for a type of virus.

Those pesky trojan horses !! Can I suggest you download 'Avast' anti -virus (The free version) and Malware Bytes anti-virus (The free version) They are both excellent... most Anti-virus protection tends to let the virus or malware in then tell you you have one when you do a scan, but Avast actually blocks them from entering your computer And Malware bytes was recommended to me by a chap who works with computers, he says it gets deeper into your computer than most anti - virus software Between the two of them I tend not to have any problems (touch wood) www.avast.com/en-gb/free-antivirus-downloadwww.malwarebytes.org/They last for a year on your comp...when the year runs out, just uninstall it and re-install the free versions Good luck Sooty
