25 Years of Reet Fanfic!

Little slap on the back for me because I've only just realised it's my Silver Jubilee! I first wrote a Corrie story back in 1990. Reet being an alki came from that and has remained throughout the stuff from 2002 onwards. I figured there was no way she'd just stop guzzling the amount she was and return to normal the way the writers did after Alan got splatted and Jenny hated her. The Rovers doors blew open thanks to the ghost of Ena Sharples so I got there first! I wrote two sequels but unfortunately, while writing the third, I had an accident which meant I couldn't write for months. By the time I could, I'd forgotten what the hell I was going to write. Pity. Emily Bishop turning into another Elsie sounded great! It definitely would have had a different ending if I'd remembered what it was. I picked it up again in 2002 and by then my version of Reet began the transition from kind hearted alki to selfish money grabbing alki. This was the first fanfic I'd written starring the redhead since 1998 when I wrote a Doctor Who crossover since she was married to Ted, played by William Russell who was Ian Chesterton with the first Doctor. Reet became the fanfic star with another Alan Bradley resurrection then the early days of the relationship between Reet and Harry Bates. This was followed by the infamous and extremely popular Rita's Hair Colour thread I started on the old Granada Corrie forum where a simple question about how many shades of red she'd had took on a life of its own with the help of a member called Screenwriter! Here many other ideas took on early forms including calling Norris a peasant and treating him like a slave and an early version of Reet's blog in the form of a diary. When the board closed it continued 7 months later on my Barbara Knox Yahoo group and I included my then puppy Barbara, named after Madame Knox in case no one knows. I did post it here under the title Happiness Is...A Bulging Bank Balance but have edited all the original posts and corrected some spelling due to the form it was posted in 2005. Not watching Corrie for 10 years and Reet being so bloody boringly repetitive since Alec Gilroy makes it harder to get inspiration for full stories or the blog but I do try!
