here is a copy of the email I sent to the ITV duty office !!....................Hello there,i wonder if you could pass this on to the powers that be at Corrie.I just want to register my displeasure at the way current producers/scriptwriters are turning Coronation Street into a shadow of its former self. For a start they are changing history by inventing all these relatives for Mike Baldwin..he is,was and always will be an only child..he discussed this with his father Frankie played by the late great Sam Kydd. Also I,and a lot of others feel that there are too many 'comedy caricature' characters,Fred is a very good 'over the top' character..but now we have the awful Diggory and these dreadful rival butchers..where did they suddenly spring from.?..In my opinion there are too many episodes per week with too many characters having nothing to do,thus they invent silly storylines for them.Pat Phoenix,Doris Speed and Violet Carson will be spinning in their graves..if it dosen't improve soon,I am afraid i shall give up on it..and i have been a fan for nigh on 30 years..Many thanks..Nick,Hammersmith

Excellent Nick. Here's mine I sent yesterday which is much harsher:
What is going on with those writers? Not only have they rewritten Mike Baldwin's character to give him a brother when he was an only child, but tonight there was mention of him working as a salesman in his brother's shop! It's established history he left school at 15 and worked on the market. I, and lots of other people if anyone at Corrie bothered reading messageboards, are sick and tired of them changing histories to suit the rubbish they come up with just to give certain underused characters something to do.
Then there's the even more appalling Kate Ford. How much longer have we got to suffer not only this terminable story but also her terrible acting? I thought she was bad before but tonight has been her worst performance yet. How can they keep giving her new contracts? Again they clearly don't take any notice of what the viewers say on messageboards across the Internet.
I have been a fan of the show since 1978 but I'm sad to say it's going right downhill and has been for a long time. Fans want less episodes of all soaps. They can barely fill 2 episodes a week with anything decent let alone 5 these days. So we get story lines dragged out until the viewer is switching off. This with Tracy and Steve has been going on for 2 years now and I hear there are plans for Kate Ford to continue into next year, making it even more boring. The story line (like so many) is going around in circles. It and the character of Tracy Barlow in this incarnation have come to the end of their shelf life due to over-exposure. All Shelley and Charlie to is say:
Charlie: I'm leaving Shelley: Don't go. I'm sorry
It's been like that for months. I'll be really surprised if Corrie is still around in 10 years at this rate. Maybe the bosses and writers should watch those new DVDs to see how it should be done.
Regards,
Patricia Dempsey

Wow you make some good points. I'm going to write to them I think jsut thinking where to start. The whole Mike Baldwin thing for starters as I've stopped watching now anyway. And then the bad acting from Pauline Flemming and Kate Ford are top of my list but it is finding the right words. Kate Ford and Pauline Flemming ruin Coronation Street with their inability to act and the producers insisting of giving them important stories when they just can't cut it.

I'm past all that being nice. I wonder what the ratings were for last night's drivel?

Those were two excellent e-mails Nick and Patsy, with every point covered. They say they listen to their fans, lets hope they sit up and take notice.

LOL! I sent Tony Wood a letter last year. Nothing. Yet when I wrote to Carolyn Reynolds and Kieran Roberts the year before complaining, that David Nugent replied. I've also had better luck with emails. Maybe he's away. Let's crash his inbox. LOL!

Usually ITV's replies go along the lines of
"thank you for your e-mail, we are sorry you are not enjoying xyz, we will make sure your comments are recorded"

For what it's worth I agree, I am sick of this Charlie/Shelley storyline and this one with Tracy/Steve, she can't stop Steve being Amy's dad just because he won't love her and then there is this stupid storyline of Mike having yet ANOTHER son in the form of Danny! How pathetic! And where they got those annoying twins from, is beyond me?

Rent-a-Twit probably
I've been really enjoying these DVDs since I'm still stuck in bed with my toe (but it's getting better so fingers crossed it is soon) and even daft stuff has been far more entertaining.

Probably had a nervous breakdown from all these years of fending off complaints because TPTB can't be bothered to do it themselves.

Here is my reply !!....
Thank you for your e-mail regarding Coronation Street.
In the surreal world of Weatherfield and Coronation Street we can control and do almost anything, from killing people to giving Mike a nephew and indeed re-writting his background history, such are the demands of Drama. However I'm sorry to read you don't approve of this and I will of course bring your concerns to the attention of our Producer. Once again thank you for your e-mail and I do hope that Coronation Street continues to entertain you for many more years.
Yours with Best Wishes, David Nugent
Coronation Street.
Coronation Street , BAFTA Winner, Best Continuing Drama Serial 2003/4/5
Its not meant to be surreal..The league of gentlemen or Little Brtain is surreal..Not Corrie

The reply to my complaint on Monday from David Nugent: Dear Ms Dempsey, Thank you for your e-mail regarding Coronation Street. Turning to your comments about Kate, of course we can't agree with you that she can't act indeed she won the "Best Bitch Award" at this years Soap Awards and we feel she brings a great deal to the character of Tracy Barlow. Once again thank you for your e-mail and I do hope that Coronation Street continues to entertain you for many more years. Yours with Best Wishes, David Nugent Coronation Street. ----------------------------------------------- Suddenly on the defensive regarding KF. Why? Best Bitch by a panel of judges is hardly the same as Best Actress by the public! As for that crap about doing what they want and changing history I have one word and it's not a very nice one. Snap there, Nick! Patsy
